Nora looked around the room she was to stay in for the next few nights. They had just arrived at the Rosemont pack house. She admired the fireplace in the corner, the bookshelf against the wall and the king bed with fluffy pillows. She dropped her bags on one of the chairs next to the fireplace and allowed herself to fall back onto the end of the bed, her arms outstretched.

Nora sighed, she was finally alone. She felt like she could breathe for the first time since they had escaped the rogues. Her fingertips felt the edge of the bandage which dipped just below the line of her sleeve. I could have died today, she thought.

Nora knew that she could never tell her family of the events of that day. Her father would have forced her to come home at once, and she couldn't risk that. With that thought, she decided to check her phone, only to find that it was overflowing with messages. Violet was asking about the road trip, Amelia was sending them her best wishes for tomorrow, Adam was asking if everything was alright. She sighed, was she going to lose these people after tomorrow? Would they still want to know her if she wasn't with Kane? Would she be forced from the pack that had become her home? She couldn't ask Kane any of this, he wouldn't understand. Mason might, but Kane wouldn't. It's not his fault, Nora reminded herself.

She wondered what she would do with her next few hours. Suddenly being alone felt more lonely than she had hoped. She walked around the room, looking at the books that sat on the shelf. They were history books, human and werewolf. She briefly flicked through a few of them, wondering who the books belonged to.

She then peered out her window, drawing back the curtains to reveal the gardens which lay below. The garden was vast, spreading out with paths that were edged with beautifully coloured flowers, illuminated by the lights that hung over the gardens and the sun that was just setting over the horizon. She did a double take when she saw that the gazebo in the centre of the garden was occupied with a boy who sat at the small table, a book in his hands. She considered staying put, but the promise of exploration pulled her from the room.

She walked into the hallway, only to see that Kane was standing at the top of the staircase, looking at her. "Everything okay?" he asked.

Nora nodded. "I'm just going to walk around, explore this place."

"Don't get lost," Kane joked.

"I'll try my best," Nora promised.

Kane nodded towards the glass of water in his hand. "Mason's throwing up, guess I was right about that concussion."

"Oh no," Nora glanced down the hall. "Which room are you guys in? Do you need help?"

Kane shook his head. "I'll look after him, you go explore."

"Come get me if anything happens," Nora told him.

"You've really changed your tune about Mason," Kane said, "Haven't you?"

"Yeah."

"No details?" Kane asked.

Nora shrugged. "He's a better guy than I had thought he was."

Kane nodded at that. "He's a great guy."

Nora took a few steps towards the staircase. "I'll see you at dinner."

"See you there," Kane told her.

Nora headed down the stairs and turned the corner. She found herself in a dining room, a huge wooden table running along the middle of the room with too many chairs to count. She walked past it and kept walking until she found a glass door which led to the garden. She took a deep breath as she stepped foot outside, the fresh air entering her lungs.
