"For the last time, unpacking won't stop us from moving to LA," mom repeated. I groaned. "Why can't we just stay in LA?," I whined. "Why not move to a new place to start over?" "But I don't want to start over. Do you have any idea how long it took me to fit in with the girls here?," I complained. "We're moving and that's that," mom stated as she exited my unpacked room.
I groaned once again. What can I say? It became a habit, I guess. I know what'll cheer me up, I thought. I'll call the gang. It went like this:
Me: MEET ME IN STARBUCKS. ASAP. WHOEVER COMES LAST PAYS FOR OUR DRINKS.
Lucy: Haha, I bet Jennifer'll come last.
Jennifer: Excuse me? I'm right over here.
Amanda: Ahaha, we know that, Jen.
Lucy: Okay I'll stop talking and head over to Starbucks now.
Jennifer: If I don't come last, you owe me ten bucks.
Lucy: Ok, why not?
Amanda: Oh you. By the way, where's Ruby?
Ruby: Here!
Jennifer: Right on cue.
Lucy: Just a few more blocks...
Ruby: I haven't even left my house yet...
Me: I'm at Starbucks already.
Jennifer: What the fudge?
Lucy: I also arrived. Ash, notice me already. 3 o'clock.

"Yes! I didn't come last! In your face, Lucy!," Jennifer squealed in delight, "you owe me ten bucks."
"Yeah, I know, I know. You don't have to rub it in my face like that," Lucy grumbled, taking out her wallet from her purse and revealing a ten dollar note.
"I'm here!," announced Amanda, "I guess Ruby's last, huh?" We all nodded, waiting for Ruby to come and buy us our drinks.
"Hey Ashley, are you gonna order something or...," Chad- the bartender asked, holding a Sharpie® Marker. "Hi Chad. Yeah, we will after Ruby comes to p- oh look, she's here."
Ruby came to our table, panting as if she just ran in a marathon or something. "Pant... I came last.. Pant... Didn't I... Pant?," she mumbled. "Mhmm," Amanda, Lucy, Jennifer and I said in unison. Ruby sighed, and approached the counter as we followed her.

"So... You're leaving the Big Apple?," Amanda said with a please-don't look on her face. "Guess so," I shrugged. "This is unbelievable! I'm sure everyone will be so sad that you're leaving," Lucy declared. I shaked my head, "not everyone..," I started. "Oh no. Please don't say her name..," Lucy protested, covering her ears with her hands.
"K.....," I said, approaching Lucy. "E..," Amanda continued. "Don't say it..," Lucy pleaded. "L...," Ruby said, smirking. "Don't you dare..," Lucy threatened us. "L....," Jennifer said, ignoring what Lucy just said. "Y!," Jennifer, Ruby, Amanda and I finished in unison.
"Ugh I hate her so much. Kelly," Lucy stated. "I know right," Amanda agreed. "I bet she'll be happy that I'm leaving," I said, sipping my green tea frappucino. "Oh, look at the time! It's already 6:30pm. I got to go now or my mom will kill me," Jennifer said. "Yeah. I think it's time that we go home," I agreed. We exited the building and headed our own ways.

"You can start packing up," mom said. "Okay...," I mumbled. What's the point of unpacking if mom won't change her mind? Just a waste of energy. Mom sighed and said, "look dearie, I know you don't want to leave but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It might change our lives forever. I'm sorry if it troubles you but this might be the start of something special." I just nodded and buried my face in my hands, holding back the tears. "Maybe you might find something better there..," mom started, placing her hand on my back to comfort me. Tears ran down my face. I can't hold it back anymore.
Mom got a new job opportunity in LA, apparently. At the same time, my dad just passed away a few weeks ago in a car accident. I sobbed uncontrollably. Mom tried to cheer me up. Finally, she managed to do that and said, "come down for dinner whenever your ready."
