Kellin's POV

"Babe, I don't want to go to this stupid carnival." my fiance whines from the passenger seat.

"Come on, Vic, it'll be fun! I promise." I exclaimed. He looks at me and sighs while rolling his eyes. "Why do you even want to go to this thing in the first place. It's for children."

"Well, maybe I want to feel like a child" I mutter, not taking my eyes off the road.

"Well, maybe I think you should grow up," Vic mumbles quietly beside me. I'm quick to brush it off knowing he only said that in the heat of the moment because he was mad at me for dragging him to the fair. He didn't want to go out, he just wanted to stay home and do nothing. As I drive further down the road and see all the lights, I get excited and repeatedly tap on Vic's thigh.

I pull into a parking spot and look over at all the rides in awe. "Vic! Look! The Ferris wheel!"

"Yeah yeah yeah. Let's go." Vic says while getting out of the car. He grabs my hand as we walk towards the entrance. We walk up to the ticket booth and Vic pays for our tickets.

"Which ride do you want to go on first babe?" I ask my fiance.

"I don't care, you pick."

"Well aren't you just so helpful." I laughed sarcastically.

I settle on the teacups, because well, what can I say? I am a child at heart. We wait in line and Vic unexpectedly puts an arm around my waist to pull me into a hug and whispers 'I love you' in my ear. My heart skipped a beat at the small gesture, making me remember why I fell in love with this tiny Mexican. I look up at him and whisper back."I love you too, dork."

We wait for about another 3 minutes and it's our turn. I take a seat across from him and start spinning the ride. As I'm spinning the cups as fast as I can make them, I look over at Vic and notice his face is painted with an emotionless and bored expression. I smirk as I get an idea to make him at least laugh. I let go of the wheel and let the force of the speed take over, causing me to slide over next him and put my arm around his shoulders.

"Hey, what up, just slidin' into your DMs." I say, trying to keep a straight face. Vic looks at me, trying his best to stay unamused but quickly fails, causing him to let out a loud laugh. I rest my head on his shoulder and look up at him with a triumphant smile. I knew I could get him to laugh. He wraps his arm around my waist again and kisses the top of my head. He smiles and says "Sometimes I hate you." I just reply with a simple 'mhm'.

After riding the teacups we aimlessly walk around the carnival until we reach the arcade games. "Wanna play some skee ball?" Vic asks me raising one eyebrow.

I look over at him cocking my head to the side trying to think of a witty comeback to reply with. "Oh, I'm so going to destroy your ass at skee ball."

"And I'm going to destroy your ass when we get home." Vic says a suggestively, winking at me.

We walk around and keep riding more rides until Vic gets moody again and decides he wants to go home. I was about to agree, due to the fact that the carnival closes in 15 minutes, until I saw a bright flashing sign that read 'Fortune Teller'. I gasp and look at Vic with wide eyes. Before I could even say anything, he shoots the idea down. "Babe please!"

"No."

"Please'

"Kellin. No."

"Vic. Yes" I pout, looking up at him with the best puppy dog eyes I could manage to muster up. Vic rolls his eyes before giving in. "Fine."

"And just like that, the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day" I quote, laughing. Vic playfully shoves me and states "We're going home after this. Let's get this over with."

Vic's POV

I roll my eyes, not moving from my spot.

"Awe, is someone too scared? It's the only thing still open. Come on big boy, it'll be fun, let's go" Kellin countered, grabbing my hand and dragging me towards the tent.

We yet again wait our turn for something I don't want to do. We take a seat in the little waiting area as I bounce my leg repeatedly up and down, unable to sit still. Shit like this freaks me out. Of course, I don't believe in it because it's all made up but still. Kellin looks over me with a worried expression. "Are you actually scared, babe?"

"What? No. I don't believe in that voodoo hoodoo magic shit." I quickly dismiss his concern.

"Well, why not?" He rebuttals.

"Because it's not real. If you think it's real, you should really grow up Kellin"

"Why are you being a dick." Kellin sighed.

"Because this is stupid!" I exclaimed to him. "I don't get why you want to get told lies and get filled with false hope" Before he could defend himself, we get called to go in to see 'Miss Abigail' or whatever the fuck it was. I mean what type of fortune teller has multi-colored hair and a face full of piercings? We sit down in a room with the cliche velvet walls made of cloth, and a shiny crystal ball that separated us and 'Miss Abigail'. She begins with the normal shit they do like tarot cards and palm readings. It was all fine until she mentioned one thing. One thing that not even Kellin knew.

"I'm seeing that it's not your fault. Whichever one of you is Vic, the accident wasn't your fault." She says with her eyes closed. My eyes widen and my jaw drops.

"W-what? You don't know what the fuck you're talking about." I shake my head in disbelief.

I'm beyond trashed and know I shouldn't drive home. Everyone at this party is hammered for fucks sake so I have no other choice to call him. The one person who's awake and will pick me up no questions asked. I know he'll be disappointed in my drinking but I'm a teenager, it's inevitable. I check the time on my phone before calling him. 2:16 am. Do I feel bad for calling him to get me too late? Yes. But I know he's awake. "Hey...I'm s-sorry for calling. Can you pick m-me up." I say in between hiccups, trying to steady my words the best I possibly could. After a long pause and a heavy sigh, I hear "Yeah. send me the address and I'll be on my way" I reply with a simple 'thank you' and hang up so I can text him the address. About 15 minutes he pulled up. I stumble over to his car and get in the passenger seat. I sit there awaiting the speech that's inevitably going to happen, but it never does. Something much worse happened. I turn my head slightly to the left to say "listen, I'm sorry for calling and making you drive all the way to pick me up." He just keeps looking forward out the windshield, keeping an eye on the road. "But hey at least I didn't drive home drunk like most kids my age do," I say with a slight chuckle. That's when he finally turns his head to his right and speaks to me. "You know what Vic-" was all he got the chance to say before the worst thing in the world happened to him.

As I replay the scene in my head, all I could think of were the horrific screams of nearby passengers and loud sirens from the police, fire engines, and ambulances.

The sight of the wrecked car that hit us made me want to empty the contents of my stomach out onto my lap. But nothing could prepare my mind or heart for what awaited me just a foot away from me at that moment, 10 years ago.

"I'm sorry sir, but there was nothing we could do to save him." I looked the paramedic dead in the eyes and just threw up everything I had consumed that night.

I clench my jaw before turning to Kellin. "Let's go, we're leaving. Now."
