Millions of contemplations, racing in my mind back and forth. This wasn't a situation I expected to encounter. Even though it has been a long period since we have met, yet the wounds still felt fresh and hurtful. I admit that I had initially never wanted to encounter him but, everything happens for a reason.
Seems like God has something else planned. Fingers crossed its something good. I sighed unknown for the future events. Uncertainty is my greatest fear. Looking at my reflection in the washroom's mirror another sigh heaves my lips.
"You are stronger than this, baby. You are. He can't get you this time. "
Giving myself a pep talk and taming my hair; I exited the staff private washroom. Maddie pacing back and forth comes in my view. She doesn't notice me. She is way too engrossed in her thought pacing even faster than before. A habit she frequently does when she's distressed.
"Let's go, Maddie" I spoke stopping her motion by holding her shoulders in place.
"Millie, you okay? I swear to god. I didn't know he'd be showing up----"
"No, Maddie. Don't be. It is not your fault." I assured her with a soft smile.
Gently grasping her wrist we approached the party area. Everyone dancing to the soft beat of the music. Swaying their hips rhythmically. My gaze drifted to Mrs.Como. It seemed as though she was living in her best moment of life. Her eyes glinted in pure bliss upon seeing him trying the savories cooked by her. He indeed did make her contented. A smile crept towards my face on seeing her beaming with euphoria. It resembled those jolly reunions of the puppy and the owner on youtube. Those videos had me bawling my eyes out for hours.
Mason Torrestine was a part of my past I tried forgetting. Keyword 'TRIED'.
Mrs.Como caught me staring at her and motioned me towards her. I hesitantly walked towards her with Maddie simultaneously walking by my side. She embraced me in her veiny hands. I returned the same placing a small kiss on her right cheek.
"Amelia darling, meet Mason, my nephew. Mason this is Amelia the sweetest employee in town." I smiled at her praiseful comment.
"Pleasure meeting you Amelia and Maddie." I stiffened at his voice sending thick shivers tumbling down my spine. He still has this effect on me.
FUCK.FUCK.FUCK
"Same here Mason." Maddie smiled gently.
"You know each other?" Mrs.Como questioned puzzled.
"Yes, Mrs.Como. Same school." I gave a tightlipped smile.
She nodded and proceeded to make a call to the coffee bean retailer regarding this month's produce. Mason's lips parted to speak but were interrupted by Maddie's ringtone. Whispering an excuse me she left.
"Great exactly what I needed. Thanks, Maddie." I muttered silently sarcasm oozing out of my brains.
It was only the both of us. It is somehow oddly comfortable. There was so much I could do with and to him. I softly blushed, looking at the beige tiles trying to get these explicit thoughts out of my head. But I guess they were just like some dreams which would never come true. It hurts like a bitch currently as well. Even after all that happened between us, it was best that my feelings towards him remain suppressed and hidden. It is healthy for both of us.
"You changed, Lia." He breathed. His eyes softly wandering over my dull features. My nickname he had given me rolling from his mouth like smooth waves crashing the shore. His voice just a tad bit huskier and deep. The evident mix of American and Italian accent dripping from his mouth like honey.
