Popularity isn't a word that I would associate myself with in my previous school, I never had that many friends so after I left for a new school, it wasn't a big send off. Thankfully.
At least they would forget me easily.
One person would have my back, when moving across the ocean to Liberty High. Tony Padilla. He told me everything that happened but not quite everything. I'd only moved just down the street, from the Dempsey household. It was sad what happened to Zach's father. At least he didn't have to leave his parents for a better future, to live with his aunt and uncle.
I love them just as much but it's hard to move into with realtives that aren't very 'England approved'. They try to Americanise everything, I love them all the same. They'd grown accustomed to my English ways since I was little and let me style my bedroom accordingly.
"That Dempsey boy down the street," I jest to Tony getting into his, pheonix coloured mustang "Is he trouble?" I asked as we pulled up to Liberty High.
"All I know is," Tony said, looking me through the top of his sunglasses "Stay away from the people on the tapes"
"Yeah yeah I know," I said opening the door and getting out, the sun warming my skin "Can I listen to them ?" I asked, Tony gives me a look.
"No, I've already given you the list of people on them and with this court case going on it doesn't make anything easy" Tony stated, walking beside me. Slinging my arm around his shoulder, taking his sunglasses from his face and placing them on my own.
"Come on cuz," I said playfully, Tony's face turning into stone, looking at him through the top the the sunglasses "Why not?" I asked, he took them from my face, hanging them from the front collar of his shirt.
"Like I said before," Tony said, anger boiling up in his voice "Stay away from the people on the tapes, well away" He says finally looking at me seriously. He looked like he was trying to protect me.
Judging from the bags under his eyes he hadn't slept well for a few nights, possible three. Always the same old jacket, it was different this time though it seemed to have the smell of sweat. At least he was taking up the boxing his probation officer suggested.
"I'm taking you to the counsler to help you find where you need to go," Tony said walking me to the door "I've got to get to first, I'll see you at lunch" He sighed adding a brisk hug within a matter of seconds he was gone, blending into the swarm of teenagers crowding the halls.
Great. Now I'm left with the alone, in this god forsaken school, at least I'd only been here for five minutes maybe less if they're not a chatty person.
God I hope they're not.
I knocked one the door, once, then twice, three times. Before hearing the voice call behind the door.
"Come in" He said, I twisted the door knob and walked in.
"I've come here for a schedule," I said, looking around the office placing my bag into right handside chair "That's a nice picture of your family" I said simply, looking at the picture in the wooden frame.
"I'm Mr-" He said standing by my side holding out his hand.
"Mr.Porter as it says on your desk, intelligent, loving husband and father, kind to students, all things considering that you are the school counselor," I smile, shaking his hand "I'm Amelia, Amelia Maven, but my family calls me Lia, pleasure to meet you"
"You're a strange kid Amelia," Mr.Porter says, gesturing a hand towards the chair in front of his desk "Please take seat" Adding a smile, as I sat down moving my bag out of the way.
"I can tell that you're not from around here, judging by your accent" Mr.Porter said, his hands clasped together on his desk, a sign of anxiety, possible shock.
"I'm from England, London, South-East" I said happily, with a smile. Hoping to ease his nerves.
"Well, I've had everything organised for your arrival," Mr.Porter said, opening a desk drawer and pulling out a brown file, he took out a map and timetable, sliding them over for me to take "And Tony tells me that you're quite the intelligent young girl, at the top of all your classes" He said, I smiled fondly at him.
"Yes, you are quite right, I could've gone to University at 14 but I decided not to, I thought it would be more fun by learning how to be a 'high schooler' as it were" I say, looking at the timetable he laughs nervously in response. Four free periods, this only meant that I would have two lessons with the seniors. Mathematics and Chemistry. But this would mean that I would have to be in the same class as Bryce Walker. Great. Tony told me I should definitely stay away from him.
I rose from my chair and stopped at the door.
"Mr.Porter?" I asked, looking at the map.
"Yes, Amelia" He answered, not looking up from the paperwork on his desk.
"With my free lessons I know that I'm allowed in the library however, would I be allowed to sit in classes that I'm interested in?" I asked, looking at all the differently labelled class rooms.
"Yes, Tony thought it would be a good idea to keep an extra seat in each class so that you could choose which one you liked most" Mr.Porter said, looking at me, slight concern on his face.
"Lovely," I said, opening the door "Have a nice afternoon Mr.Porter and I would suggest not coming home late this time, I'm sure the wife doesn't appreciate it" Closing the door behind me with a light snap I walk through the crowd, throwing the paper map into the bin. I instantly remembered the map in a matter of minutes, I walked through the crowd briskly, making my way to the library. My eyes scanned the library, filled to the sky with hundreds of books. It was like looking at a new home. I looked around the library hoping to find a Maths book, for my next period.
Briskly skimming the spines of the books with my fingertips, my hand was met with another as we both grasped the same book. My eyes met with his. Suddenly, it was like we were the only two people in the whole library. Alone.
I told myself as I took one look into, Zach Dempsey's deep brown eyes.
