Gakushuu exited the principal's office with his face ashen. With enough effort, he was able to hold in his temper and be kind not to put any damage to the doors that he was closing.
His body stiffened as he recalled the principal's harsh, humiliating comments on his failure in the basketball match. What made him felt worse was that he actually agreed with him.
His strong desire to surpass his father once again burned vigorously inside of him. Although he hated to admit it, he occasionally wished that he could become Sakakibara for half a day. He wondered how it feels like to be carefree.
Though he immediately shrugged the thought off at imagining himself being a complete idiot for twelve hours straight. That is disturbing.
Come to think of it, however, he didn't think there could be anyone who is totally free of troubles. Not Ren, and certainly not Akira.
He could clearly remember the time when he had first met her. The first impression that came to his mind was only that she had a very common name. On the second look, he noticed that she had an uncommon expression showing in her eyes. At first, he couldn't quite tell what it was, but the look in her eyes reminded him of himself.
He had to admit, he found her likable. Maybe he could manipulate her as well. She could be useful to him. Gakushuu was certain that his father noticed this too, and that must be why he was asked to see her.
That was when he surprisingly noticed that for this whole time, she hasn't done anything yet to butter him up. He waited patiently for it to come, for he never came across a student who does not, to some extent, feared him, or wanted to flatter him.
"It's very nice of you to come to see me, Asano-kun." That is a creative compliment, Gakushuu thought in his head.
"It is natural that I would want to see you. After all, you are the first student in the school history that has successfully come back to the main building. It must have been a slip in your Midterms last year?"
"Yes, it was."
"Congratulations. I appreciate your efforts. Here is your speech that you will be making during assembly tomorrow, where I will be introducing you to the school. You will be placed in Class 2A, so if you have any problems feel free to talk to me. I hope you will have a fruitful year ahead, Akira-Chan."
He gave her his polite smile and handed her the script as he stepped out of the room, before a silvery voice stopped him in his tracks. "Thank you so much, Asano-kun!"
He looked back, this time studying her in detail. Her orbs were in the color of brown that was like rich, aromatic chocolate. Gakushuu stared at them, and the image of the chocolates melting from the heat of happiness formed in his mind.
Then he saw it. It was something more than happiness. The vigorous fire of ambition was burning fiercely in her eyes, hosted with the desire for victory. At that moment it was so obvious, that he could almost imagine that she was in flames. He smiled. Perhaps we are indeed the same type of person, after all.
Time went by and he came to realize that this girl, in fact, doesn't fear him, nor does she treat him as her rival, or someone to obey only because she had to.
Gakushuu snapped from his memories and turned the corner towards the school hall, just as he saw Akira exiting the hall from the side doors.
He would never admit it, and he sure hoped that his father didn't notice that he was enjoying his first experience with friendship.
The long livid face finally relaxed. He formed a smile, one that is a bit more genuine than the one he had been carrying around all day. "Akira." He called out with his usual low, steady voice, and headed slowly towards the brunette, the girl whom he would label as a 'friend'.

A/N :
I feel like it's a challenge to make Asano stay in-character. He's very fun to write though.
