Vampires. Ugh. One of the worst words in the English vocabulary. They tore my entire life apart and I want my revenge, but there's one little problem...They dominate the human race and are 10 times faster and stronger and can end one human girl's life in .02 seconds. Yeah, so revenge isn't an option for me.

Let me tell you how my living hell came to be. Oh yeah. Did I mention this all happened within the span of a week?

August 20, 2017

"Get up idiot" are the first words I hear of the day. I looked over to my brother, Samuel. "It's freaking 1:10 in the afternoon. You fell asleep at 10:00 p.m. last night, I don't know how you manage to sleep for so many hours." "Neither do I", I replied. "Well get up something weird is happening." "A girl texting you is weird." I giggled. "Hey! I get texts from girls all the time!" he shouted. "Yeah okay." "No but seriously, all the power went out. The battery operated radios aren't even working."

I went to check the time on my phone, but it didn't turn on. I looked at my brother with concern and he just shrugged. Samuel left and I got dressed in Nike shorts and a loose tank top. I threw my dark brown hair in a high ponytail and jogged downstairs. It was only then that I noticed how hot it was. Since the power went out, so did the AC and it's 97 degrees F outside.

When I reached the bottom of the steps, I saw my mom and brother sitting on the sofa. Mom was reading a magazine and Samuel was drumming his fingers on the table in front of him. "Where's dad?" I asked. "Talking with the neighbors outside." Mom replied.

I walked outside and slowly approached my dad and his friends. "Ah there's my girl!" My dad said gleefully. I greeted his friends then looked at my dad. "So do you know what's going on?" I asked my dad. "Wish I did. This has never happened before. We can't listen to any news or listen to anything, since the TVs and radios aren't working." said my dad.

I looked over my dad's normal group of friends and saw a man I didn't know. He looked to be in his mid twenties. I don't know why my fifty year old dad and friends are hanging out with a twenty something year old, but I would ask him about that later.

For the rest of the day, my brother and I talked for a bit about what was happening. We also talked about funny stories from when we were younger, and I realized life without technology actually wasn't that bad.

"Dinner's ready!" mom shouted from the kitchen.

      Dinner was fairly quiet tonight.

"Hey dad, who was that guy in his mid twenties, you were talking to?" I asked.

"Oh that was my friend Graham." he replied.

"Huh. I don't remember you talking about any Graham. Is he new to the neighborhood?" asked my mom.

My dad suddenly looked really unsettled. "Yeah, he, um no, he's a friend of a friend."

I stared at him for the remainder of dinner. Why the hell would he act so suspicious around the topic of a friend. I mean. Unless he's a pedophile...no, no. I know my dad, plus how do you manage to get molested in your twenties? As a man? ALICE. Stop it you create these awful scenes in your mind that are completely unrelated to what I'm trying to figure out. After a good night's rest, I'll definitely think about this more rationally.
