It's as though everything was in slow motion. Her hands moved with the music, her legs following the choreography.

She could see him there in the front, his shoulders bopping up and down as he followed the same choreo.

But something was wrong.

She looked around the stage, at the other backup dancers, at her instructors, at him.

It was as though someone had hit her in the head with a bat. Like her eyes wouldn't focus.

A sharp pain stabbed her stomach and she bit her cheeks to hold in a whine.

Just keep dancing, the songs almost over, she thought to herself as she threw her head back and sighed, sweat sliding down her neck. She was boiling, overheating.

Her eyes returned back to his back as the music began to slow and the dancers finished their final choreography.

He turned laughing and smiling as they made their way offstage. She walked next to him, staring at his blurred face, her breathing stuttered.

She whispered his name but it was like the world had become muted. She began to sway, her head heavy.

Her legs collapsed beneath her and she fell to the ground, hitting her head hard on the backstage floor.

It was as though she was watching a movie. She saw herself as a child. She saw her father, her mother.

She tried yelling out but no sound came out.

The doppelgänger family played, pushing the child version of her on the swing laughing and smiling. They were happy.

She stood by and watched, smiling, immersed in the memory, in the utter happiness filling her soul. A feeling she hadn't felt for a long time.

Her mother turned, her loving eyes connecting with hers.

Her mother's face grew grave.

"Come back.." her mother started, her voice echoing throughout the memory.

"Come back to me Rae!" The voice had left her mothers mouth but it didn't belong to her.

She looked past her parent and saw him, tears pouring down his cheeks. Her soul became heavy once again. She couldn't go with him, because that's where the pain was.

She turned away, hearing his pleas behind her. She looked straight ahead, to the bright light in front of her.

Took a deep breath in.

And disappeared.
