Connor had just woken up and was getting ready to head back to the hospital when his satellite phone rang. With one look, he heaved a huge sigh before picking up the call.
"Hello, Clark."
"Connor, how is she?"
"She's fine. They checked her into the hospital and are keeping her under sedation. I came back to the house to shower and grab some shuteye, but someone from the team is with her at all times."
"Why? What happened?"
Connor proceeded to explain what had happened in Egypt.
"And you told her you loved her?"
"It just came out," Connor said incredulously, causing Clark to laugh through the phone.
"And what did she say?"
"She started crying hysterically before falling asleep."
Clark continued to laugh through the phone before finally being able to talk, "I'm sure given different circumstances, that Josie would have returned your sentiments."
"Considering that it's my fault she was in that mess, to begin with?"
"No, hold on, Connor. From what you've told me, all I see is a team leader who did everything you could to save her. And I see a man who loves Josie so much that he traveled to Egypt to find her."
Connor did not reply with anything but a sigh.
"Just let me know if anything changes."
"Will do."
Connor made his way downstairs to find John and Michael eating breakfast with John pushing a plate towards him. They both looked like they wanted to tease him about his words to Josie the day before, but they merely exchanged looks and ate their breakfast. Connor scarfed down his breakfast, found something he needed in Josie's bags, and got ready to head back to the hospital.
Josie opened her eyes expecting to find Connor somewhere nearby but only saw Marcus sitting in the chair next to her bed speaking to a doctor.
"Hey guys,' she said quietly as she tried to sit up in the hospital bed. Alexi admonished her to stay still while they raised the head of the bed a little so she could see everything better. Alexi took one of her hands and sat down next to her.
"How are you feeling, Jo,' Alexi asked, seeing the disappointment in her eyes as she looked around the room.
"I've definitely been better, but I'm okay. Where am I?"
"A hospital in Tel Aviv."
Dr. Mendell came forward on her other side.
"Dr. McDowell, I am Dr. Mendell. We've had you sedated since you arrived because you were on the brink of multiple organ failure. Your organs have recovered, for the most part, so we decided to bring you out of sedation. Now, can you tell me if you were dreaming?"
Josie nodded looking scared. "Yes, I was. I was running through the compound, but could not get out or wake up. I don't think I've ever been so scared."
"I am sure of it. I want you to know that you will be well cared for while you are here. Our resident psychologist will be coming in to conduct your psychological evaluation, strictly routine."
"Yes sir,' Josie said as he walked back toward Marcus.
"What do you remember?"
