Diesel Maddox was wearing a black suit while standing over his mother's open coffin. She was wearing a black, lace dress and had a rose in her hands. She didn't look dead, she looked like she was sleeping, a peaceful slumber but Diesel didn't let her peaceful expression fool him. He knew the truth, she killed herself last night, an intentional overdose.
Why?...why would you do this to me?...why would you pretend to be happy when you weren't?... Diesel thought.
He liked to think that now that his mother passed she could hear his thoughts. This was his way of communicating with her.
Diesel had made his speech to a bunch of random people within the neighborhood. They didn't have any personal connection with his mother, they just came to pay their respects to the dead. Where is his dad you ask? Well, he was nowhere to be found. The funeral was about to come to an end when Diesel requested five minutes with his mother, five minutes to talk to her.
Suddenly the doors of the church burst open.
"I'm here! I'm here! Where is she!" Came Aiden Maddox, Diesel's dad's voice as he stumbled into the church.
"Dad, " came Diesel's soft voice as he stared at his father in confusion.
Aiden met Diesel's gaze and his eyes immediately softened.
"Hey, hey, boy. How...how you holding up?" Aiden stumbled as he walked towards Diesel.
One sniff and Diesel knew why his dad was late. Then again, he should have guessed by the state Aiden was in. He was drunk, extremely drunk.
"You're drunk at your own wife's funeral?' Diesel asked with a glare.
"I'm grieving, " Aiden defended his actions and then turned to his wife's coffin.
Diesel sighed and turned to the coffin as well.
"She was a beautiful, yet fragile woman who had too many secrets, " Aiden sighed.
