Another day came and went.
Another day without a job.
Another day closer to being homeless at the tender age of 19.
Here it is. My last chance effort at a job. I don't even know how I got this interview. Avery Inc Is one of the most elite architectural firms in the United States.
"Mr. Herron?"
"Yes that's me."
"Hi my name is Gabriella I'm Mr. Avery's number 2 and I will be conducting your initial interview then if I like what I hear then I will hand off your information to Mr. Avery and if he has time today he will meet with you today. If not then he will call you to set up a secondary interview. If I don't like what I hear I will tell you. Understood?"
"Yes Ma'am."
"Alright this way to my office."
We walk to her office and I sit down in the chair in front of her desk.
"Would you like any tea, water, or coffee?"
"Some water would be lovely."
She stepped away and got me a bottle of water. Then the interview started. (I wont bore you with Interview details. Interviews are pretty boring.)
"Alright Mr. Herron I really do like what I hear. If you'll just stay here and relax I'll see if Mr. Avery has time to meet with you."
"Alright."
I checked my phone really fast and saw I had a text from my best friend Corbyn.
Corbyn: How did it go?
Zachy: Great I may be meeting with Mr. Avery today. I'll call you in a bit.
"Alright Mr. Herron follow me Mr. Avery Will see you now."
I followed Gabriella to Mr. Avery's office. I cant say that I wasn't extremely nervous.
"Mr. Avery This is Zachary Herron the young man I was telling you about."
"Hello Zachary. Jack Avery." He said sticking his hand out for me to shake.
"Hello Mr. Avery You can just call me Zach."
"Alright Zach. Gabbie you can leave us now. Zach please have a seat and we will get started."
"Yes Sir."
We sat at different chairs I across from Mr. Avery.
"So Zach Has Gabbie explained what the job would be?"
"Not in very much detail just that I would be your assistant."
"Yes that is true. So what you would be doing is answering calls deciding wether or not you can handle the call or if it needs to be transferred to me. You will get a list of people who will be immediately transferred to me like family and a very small handful of close friends. You would be scheduling meetings, or rescheduling meetings, coming with me to meetings and taking notes you can do that by hand or on a tablet. You will be coming with me on business trips."
"Alright."
"Sound good to you?"
"Yes sir."
"So tell me Zach, how have you not been able to find a job?"
"It's hard to find your first job I've been trying to find a job for a year and haven't been able to. Sorry to be completely frank and blunt but My parents and siblings died in a horrible car accident last year and I was left with the house. I sold it and rented an apartment I was ok for a while but now the money is disappearing quickly with household bills and gas for my car to go any where I needed. I'm about a month a way from being homeless."
"Oh wow Zach I'm so sorry to hear that."
"Thank you."
"Zach I think you would be a great addition to the team here. We are one big family so what I will do for you is I will pay for the late fees and rent for the next two months to help you out so you don't lose your apartment."
"Mr.Avery I cant accept that. I would love the job but I cant accept that much money."
"Zachary like I said we are one big family we help each other. You are not expected to pay me back just do a good job and we will all good. Now how much do owe?"
"About $3,500"
"Wow that much how much is your monthly rent?"
"$950 not including bills."
"Alright Zach here is the check I'm gonna write it for $7,000 That way you have a little extra for suits."
"I need suits?"
"Well at least dress pants, some nice button ups, dress shoes and at least 2 blazers for events."
"Alright that I can do."
"Good. Since it's Friday you'll start on Monday at 8am. I'll be here at 9am to help get you caught up to speed. But Gabbie will get you trained up a bit and I.T. will be by to help you set up your accounts. Your work email will be set up by Monday. From there you'll have an email from me welcoming you and also giving you a quick rundown of what you'll need to set up and how."
"Alright sounds good."
"Alright Zach you may go. It was great meeting you and If I may recommend a few places to go shopping that are decently priced with good options. There's John Luca's on 5th, and Martin's on main street."
"Thank you Mr. Avery I appreciate this."
"My pleasure. See you Monday morning. Dress to impress."
"Yes Sir."
