Chapter 3: Sadness

Their suits released parasites that ate at the peoples bodies till only the suit and their skeleton was left.  It takes less then 5 hours for the parasites to completely consume the corpse in which they are injected into.  It also helped when a beast began feeding on a corpse, the parasites then ate the beast from the inside out, in-turn killing it.  It has been a successful strategy thus far.

The tight stitching of the shirt made a sharp noise as I ripped.  The corpse has gone stiff but the flesh was still very soft.  The warmth has left long ago. As I was crouched over the body, I took the needle and jabbed into the mans side. I was able to get the needle between two of his ribs and straight into the heart.  It took only a second to release the parasites that would then eat the body away.  I looked up and studied the city block to my left.  The buildings towered over the three other solders ahead of me.  Looking back from where I came, stood a group of 5 arguing about who will clear out the building that was standing before me.  It had a store front with several mannaquin standing in the window.  Blood was splatted on a portion of on of the windows but the body seemed to be dragged off.  Probably by a beast no less.  The blood trail weaved between several coat racks and through a busted door in the back.

They decided that Snipe and Snake will clear out the lower floors and then move to the roof and set up a sniper post.  Snipe and Snake weren't brothers but they might as well could be.  They grew up together on one of the outer colonies, HRO-1, aka Hell Rot.  The name says it all.  They never talk, even the rumor that they are Mutes has gone around. Hard workers and stern men they are though.

A loud snap drew my attention back to the body before me.  Cursing under my breath, I reached into my left belt pocket to see if there was any more nettles.  That one was my last. I was supplied only 2 and I broke my first the same way I did this one, between the ribs.  I stood up yelled to the three left standing, Snipe and Snake had went into the building already.

"Hey Ratface, got any other nettles?"

Turning to look at me, the look of disguise covered his face. He hated the name, but he does look like a rat, short brown hair, black eyes, and just all around short.

"Ha! Broke your last one ,eh.  That's just great isn't it."

"Yeah, broke the tip on the ribs.  Got any spares?"

Ratface paused for a moment, probably thinking about a way to turn this into something he could use. Then he reaches into the poach on his side and pulled out a couple of nettles. He looks up at the other two men to his left and back to me.

"Sense you've been doing such a poor job on taking care of the nettles have some extras."

The other two men caught on quickly on which Ratface was saying and tossed their nettles at me also.

"Looks like we are all out of nettles, I guess we'll have to go back and get more." The man to the far left rolled his eyes at how childish that sounded ,but he went along with it anyways. They turned around and started walking back to base camp.

I turned around mad and walked back down the street. The street I was on ended as a 3 way junction. The skyscrapers on the street was rather small compared to the others that were packed into the city.  A Large dome covered the small mega-city.  The dome was an older edition. A pattern of metal and glass triangles made the strong under-sheet. A stronger energy shield covered the outermost of the dome. The energy shield helped protect against the intense elements of the outdoor environment. The streets of this city, were very old fashion with only one level that was on the ground.  In most other cities, there would be 3 streets that would connect the skyscrapers, but not even the lowest street would touch the ground. Its got to do with the unstable ground that most cites are build on.
