It's strange to watch your city, once alive with people, become introverted and die as quickly as the sun sets as the people sprint away from their once almost dystopian paradise.
I still remember the screams, still ringing in my ears, even as it's been so long since I'd heard much loud noises at all, the memory still rang fresh in my mind. I can still vividly see the expression of fear and remember the way my heart dropped into my stomach and out of my body, leaving a hole bigger then then the sun, an aching, empty hole.
" Jerr" A low, monotone voice interrupted my thoughts abruptly. I turn my head to see who it is, but the voice already seemed bleakly familiar.
" I told you to stop that, Em" I said exasperated. Em's hair was short and red, cut down to her jaw. Her red hair seemed to extentuate her pale skin and her freckles looked like the stars in the books we read to the children, to teach the about astrology. As I study her physique, her stature was slouched and her face was a blank, emotionless , pain.
" Lee needs you." She said suddenly, her libs barely parting to talk.
"For what?" A tang of fear in my voice and laced with nervousness.
"I don't know. It's your death bed." She said and walked out of my quarters, slowly and drowsily.
As for me my mind raced with options on why Lee would want to see me. I hop off of my bunk, landing with a solid thud on the metal, hexagon styled floor.
I through on a baggy jacket, at least 2 or 3 sizes to big for my smaller frame. It draped over shoulders and down to my lower thigh, making me look smaller and fragile. I put on some shoes I'd found scaveging when me, Em, and Oliver went out a few days ago. They were also a few sizes too big but functioned none the less. I tied the shoe laces tight enough to keep them on my feet. I wore the same jeans I'd been wearing for the past week, they actually we're pretty close to fitting my smaller legs.
I looked at myself in a small, dirty mirror Diego had found the other week and made sure that I was somewhat presentable. I grabbed a smaller piece of yarn-like, weeved string and tied up my shoulder length hair in a bun, it was greasy and riddled with dirt and dead bugs, hopefully dead, that is.
I leave my room and walk down the deselate hall, it's walls small and dark. I take turns and twists down the winding, halls, passing only a few people, most of them I recognized from living in the plants and agricultural studies building even though we were in the Medical studies building you have to pass through the Medical building to get to the atg building otherwise you'd have to go outside, and you need permission and a note from every Subject Leader to get past the guards.
I soon reach the end of the Med building and enter the south side of the main building.
The main building was crowded and filled with people from all over base. I recognize several people from mathematics and some from Ag, but I don't see any from Military, they're probably doing a training unit at the moment I think to myself.
"Jermy!" A loud voice booms over the crowds, but only I seem to notice. As I look around I see Lee's face, her tan skin and straight, jet black hair stood out as she almost towered over the crowd. As I attempt to walk over to her, she pulls me off of my feet and in front of her.
I stand still for a second, shocked and a little disheveled at how easily she could through me across the room.
"Jermy" she spoke calmly, her voice almost lower then mine.
"Yes, Captain Lee" I said, my serious tone almost confusing her.
"God, Jermy, we've been friends for years, no captain, alright?"
"Right sorry, I've been spending too much time with Ata." I said apologetically.
"It's fine, but I have some news."
"What is it?" I ask, concerned and anxious.
"The PAS department wants you to assemble your best Ag students and make a team.
"W-what? What do you mean team? Why me?"
"They want you, the leader of the At studies group, to make a team if your best Ag students. I don't know why, they didn't tell me and I don't question orders."
"O-ok" My voice was small and shaky. I was already overwhelmed and I hadn't even started my project.
"I need you working on it now, so go back to the Ag building and assemble your team, let me know when you're done, got it?"
"Sure" I said, my eyes blankly staring straight ahead, almost through Lee.
She walked away and I stayed there, standing in my place, why do they want the team? PAS has never asked me for anything more then a monthly report on newbies just to see if they should move to the Military studies or Med studies.
I should probably go get that team for PAS I think to myself as I drag myself out of the main building and back into my quarters.
