Moving Down Under

I can't believe that I'm moving to Australia in less than one week. I don't know anyone there and it is a completely different time zone to all my friends here in Scotland... How am I going to be able to face time or Skype them? I will miss them all so much but my mum is happy and that's the most important thing to me. She has met a man who makes her smile... the only catch is that he is Australian and refuses to move so instead we have to move to him I'd do anything for  my mum to be happy after the way that my dad left and agreed to moving with her.

I guess I could just visit my friends in the holidays instead, or they could even come and visit me I'm sure that they would love the sun. I know that I am going to.

Four days later

I'm unpacking all my boxes in my new room, I managed to persuade my mum to give me the biggest room in the house as I did just leave all my friends and home behind for her.

The balcony window in my room looked right out across to the house that was neighbours with mine there was a tree in between our two balconies creating a sort of privacy but not much, going to have to invest in some blinds instead of the pale pink flimsy sheer curtains that were there already.

This is going to be so hard to make new friends... I'm already an incredibly shy person as it is, i found it hard to talking to people out of my friend group at my old school and id grew up with them but now I'm going to have to talk to people that I don't know at all who all have their own friendship groups. I finish unpacking all my bed stuff and the start to make my bed, I stop as i come to a picture of me and my dad... this was before everything went off... I was so young, could never see any of the distress that my mum or dad went through.. I never understood. A tear slips my eye and I shove the picture in one of the boxes and kick it under my bed. It's time for a new start. Once all my clothes are in my wardrobe and bath stuff In my bathroom I slink into my bed burying my head into the blankets and pillows, I guess this might not be so bad after all.

I was just laying in my bed like it was any other casual day when I saw someone moving around in the house next to me an it reminded me that I was unaware of any of the neighbours around me, it was no longer my old boring neighbours that I had all my life it was new Australian neighbours. If their house was the same as ours it would mean that whoever got that room also got the biggest room in the house. Lucky. I go out to my balcony and sit on one of the chairs that were already there whilst pretending to be on my phone whilst trying to get a look of my new neighbour. I see him come out on to his balcony and quickly look back down to my phone.  He looks my age if not older... I wonder if he will go to my school? At least then I would kind of recognise someone there which would make it a lot less scary.

I walk back inside to get a drink form my kitchen and figure out where everything is set out in the house as the only room i had really been in o far was my bed room and the attached toilet. As I am walking down the stairs I can hear my mum happily singing, she only sings when she is baking. I smile to myself as i haven't seen her bake in ages and she sounds as if she is really enjoying herself. I grab a bottle of water out of the fridge and go to slink back into my room and finish unpacking everything in my room and bathroom when she calls my name.

"Aria, doll can you come here for a second"  I go back into the kitchen to see my mum putting a bunch of homemade cookies into a box and laying them onto the side.

"When you get a free moment when these have cooled down you should go and see you neighbours and introduce yourself, maybe make a couple of friends" she smiled at me. I nod my head with a "sure no problem mum" and walk back upstairs. I decide to have a shower to wash away my sleeps' sweat and grab everything that I would need.

I come out of my shower feeling refreshed and clean and quickly slip on some clothes, it is a really warm day outside so my outfit consists of shorts and a tank top. My hair is in a high ponytail and my face clean of any makeup.  In the mood to read, the first book that I can see is picked up and taken out with me to my balcony whilst I get some peaceful fresh air. There is some light strumming of a guitar nearby and it sounds lovely, looking up to try and source where the beautiful sound is coming from I eventually look at the opposite balcony and see my neighbour there in nothing but some shorts sitting on a balcony sofa playing the guitar, all of a sudden he looks up and catches me staring, I blush and look down hoping he wouldn't have noticed. He stays out for a while longer and then lays his guitar down before standing up and going back into his house. It starts to get around mid lunch time by the time that I have done reading so I decide to pinch a few cookies and take the rest over too my neighbour and introduce myself, better to get it over and done with rather than putting it off.
