HEATH
Devin and Heath came from...different backgrounds, to say the least.
See, it happened like this.
Heathcliff White and Deviniara Nile were betrothed the moment they were born-literally. Heathcliff was born first, the same year, a few months apart. (I had to make up this part since the lovely Miss Calonita hasn't provided us with birth dates but we know they were born the same year, although I guess all of this is made up so haha ok let's continue.) At his birth, Olivinia betrothed him immediately to the unborn Devin, who would come a little later. Sometimes Heath thought it was the only good thing she'd ever done.
When Devin arrived, it seemed that everything would go accordingly. They would not be allowed to meet until they were both of an eligible age, and the only information anyone bothered to give them was each other's names.
When Heath was younger, he lived the life of a royal, and he lived it well. As a twin, he was often overlooked by nature unless he acted out.
So he did. A lot.
When he was ten years old, Snow invited him into her office.
Heath had worried only a little as he came to sit beside her. She looked as pleasant as ever, and his youth-born naivety kept him calm.
Snow sipped from her white tea cup daintily. "Hello, brother."
"Hey."
Her face squinted at the informal greeting, but she recovered quickly. "I assume you understand the reason you've been asked here today?"
Heath gulped. This must be about-
"Father says you've been behaving quite rudely lately. Unbecoming to a prince, in my opinion. Toppling that statue in the Great Room during the court the other day...that was the last straw for me, I am afraid."
Drops of sweat trickled down Heath's face. "But-"
"Oh, don't worry. I wouldn't dream of punishing you." She only barely accented the word, but it sent Heath's stomach churning. "Your face is quite public, see. I can't risk damaging it. But I have arranged for a certain...motivator, if you will."
She leaned forward, her bright red lips curved into a wicked smile. "As Rapunzel always insists, we must keep our subjects in line. And you fall into the category, whether or not you are my brother."
Heath was too terrified to move.
She got up swiftly, silently, moving toward a hidden door in a graceful pace. "You are aware, I assume, of your betrothed?"
Yes, Heath thought, why?
"The fairy godmother, Olivina, who presides over the royal court, looked her up and brought her here. Her name is Deviniara Nile. She will be keeping her here under careful guard as your incentive. Her family's staff have reported that she behaves as you do, gallivanting about in the forest like a heathen. I believe this will be good for you both."
