Chaos lived in solitude with the embodiments of soil, water and air revolving around him. Not taking a solid form, the elements swirled without order. They were simply matter that whirled around a lonely being floating in the abyss since before the beginning of the universe.
Eventually, the embodiment of chaos grew weary and fell into a deep slumber. While he slept, he was unaware of what had begun to occur around him. The elements that were always restless gained a purpose that was never seen in them before. They worked together in a productive dance. The sleeper was unaware as the elements broke apart, leaving small parts of themselves behind to mix with the ambient chaotic energy to form another being much like Chaos.
As only concepts, soil, water and air along with the new entity that had been dubbed Eirene, the counterpart to Chaos and the embodiment of creation, worked together to create something new. Something magnificent.
Before they could complete their project, however, they ran into a problem. To finish their creation, they needed more energy than they had available. They way they could get the energy they needed was to ask Chaos for some help. The problem was, Chaos was not awake to help.
Turning their attention to the slumbering being, the elements were apprehensive and sent Eirene to wake him in case he was upset.
Slowly, Eirene edged to Chaos' domain of the abyss. When they were next to each other, Eirene enveloped Chaos in a blanket of her own unique and calm energy to wake him up. Groggily, Chaos awoke and realized he wasn't alone. At first, he was confused, but he soon became excited because for the first time in forever, Chaos was not alone. There was another sentient being to keep him company in infinity.
Eirene was distracted by the excitement Chaos exhibited and forgot why she was there in the first place. For an incalculable amount of time, Eirene and Chaos basked in each others' presence without a care.
Once Chaos had calmed from restless mess to groggy happiness, Eirene remembered their goal. She softly requested Chaos' aid in creating Eirene's pet project. Easily, Chaos agreed to lend some of his energy to her and happily, she returned to the elements to finish what they had started. Chaos watched them work, quiet and content.
Together, Eirene and the elements created the first of the celestial bodies. This little planet was Eirene's pride and joy and she spent most of her existence on its surface. She nurtured and cared for her baby while Chaos watched on fondly. Eirene created more and more celestial bodies to fill the void. Soon, there were innumerable stars and planets floating in and colouring the previously dismal abyss. Even with all these new creations, that first planet remained Eirene's baby and she often returned to it.
Chaos watched the joy that lit up Eirene's very being every time she created something new and felt a deep longing. It was wonderful to watch that joy, but maybe, it would be even better if that joy was produced by something Chaos created.
Deciding that that was his goal, Chaos collected his own energy to start with his own creation. Wondering how to get ahold of some of Eirene's energy without her knowledge, Chaos wandered onto the very first planet. Upon arriving on the surface, taking a solid form in the process, chaos took a moment to enjoy the embrace of his companion's energy. That was when chaos had an idea.
Reaching down, Chaos grasped a handful of the surface, once their long ago companion Soil, and pulled Eirene's energy from it. What remained was the energy of Chaos which drifted back to the abyss.
With the newly acquired energy, Chaos returned to one of the faraway planets and melded the two energies together.
Chaos was successful in his endeavor and created another entity like Eirene and himself. Chaos was incredibly pleased and took the new entity with him on a search for Eirene, but he hadn't anticipated the new entity going mad. Before Chaos could stop it, it broke free of him and destroyed many planets and stars on a devastating path of destruction. Chaos caught up to it and destroyed the entity and that was how Eirene found him, having felt the destruction of her creations.
Chaos felt horrible for creating something that ultimately hurt Eirene. Eirene was simply confused and inquired about what happened. Dejectedly, Chaos told her his plan and recounted the pursuit until he reached the end, where we revealed that the very first planet was the last one to be destroyed before he could interfere. Eirene was saddened by the loss of her original creation, but ultimately didn't blame Chaos. In fact, she was amused.
Calmly, she comforted Chaos and picked up the broken pieces of their planets and stars. Using her energy, Eirene stuck the fragments together and created a new, small, green planet she named Earth. This planet was made as a symbol of rebirth in the wake of destruction.
Eirene returned to Chaos and requested some of his energy. Confused but willing to do anything for her, he released some of his energy for her use. She took this energy and absorbed it, but it was different than any of the other times. This time, it rested inside her and mingled with her own energy without assimilating. This energy mixed with her own and grew to be a new, sane sentient being.
When the new entity was ready to be independent, she released her and together with Chaos, named the young one Nyx, the representation of the night. Chaos and Eirene happily watched over their child as she learned about the void around her and all that existed. For a long while, the three of them existed happily, but eventually, Eirene asked Chaos for another child. He happily agreed and some time later, Erebus was birthed.
Eirene could feel the power within their children and knew they would do well to channel it through something, so she created a new star and sent it to the Earth. Slowly, Earth began to spin around it, soon to be joined by some other planets that were nearby. On one of the rotations, the Earth picked up a small rock that merely spun around the green planet. With these rotations, Eirene created a night and day cycle which she assigned to her children. Nyx governed the dark side of the Earth and while Erebus governed the darkness that prevailed over all the planets that received no light from any stars.
Throughout time, Chaos and Eirene grew their family, adding Eros, the embodiment of the love felt between Chaos and Eirene, Gaia, the personality of the Earth and Tartarus, the governor of the void that housed the planets. Chaos retained control of all voids, including the emptiness where forgotten things go. The two originals stopped producing children when their existed offspring began having their own. Erebus and Nyx joined to produce Aether and Hemera, the air breathed by them and the daylight. Nyx produced many offspring on her own including Thanatos, the god of non-violent death, Hypnos, the god of sleep, and Philotes, the goddess of affection, friendship and sex.
Gaia produced a son, Uranus who governed the sky on earth and birthed a large brood which made way for what is known as the Greek Pantheon. It is after the Olympian gods were crowned and seated upon the council that we start our tale, in modern times.
