I remember hearing the tales of this awful man living in the mountains behind the Bay Ridge woods. I didn't really believe the stories of the mountain man, but I knew of them from other people and their so called "experiences" with the creature. It's called a creature because he's not really human, but rather an entity taking on the form of a man.

I wanted to avoid the woods down in old Bay Ridge gardens just to assure that the tales aren't true. I'd rather not even find out. I was lying in my big pink bunk bed that I shared with my younger sister Portia. I took the top while she took the bottom. We loved our large pink bunk bed set with golden metal bars holding it up and spiraling through the backboard. We both had our own special quilts crafted by our aunt Pam. I had a bright pink quilt covered in a meadow of yellow and blue flowers, while Portia had a purple quilt with a puppy sleeping on a throw pillow. I know adorable right.

I was lying in my bed when I heard the doorbell ring. My aunt opens it and it was my three closest friends Jace, Norman and Tara asking if I can come out and hang with them. Aunt Pam then sent them up to retrieve me to go out and hang. When they came up I greeted them and they told me that they wanted to show me something. I had no idea what this "something" could have been, but I was actually kinda excited to see what my besties had planned for me.

We walked downstairs and out the door. We started down the street towards the forbidden place that I swore to never visit. I didn't realize where we were going until we got to the entrance of the woods. I stammered to get the right words out, but they were somewhere along the lines of "what the hell are we doing here?"

That's when Jace says that we're going to discover the truth behind the mountain man. My eyes widened when he said that. Then the anxiety kicked in and I started to panic. The others noticed and before they could ask me what was wrong, I bolted out of there. I ran half a block back to my house, ran up the stairs and into the house. My aunt asked me what happened, but I refused to reply. I just ran up to my bedroom and got into the bed.

The others came over to ask what that was all about and I told them that I refuse to go anywhere near those woods. I don't even want to hear the stories anymore. They all agreed and left the house. When leaving Penelope didn't know that Jace had planned a trip into those woods for the four that weekend. Jace says to the gang "she'll see tomorrow."

Then they all walked away leaving their good friend Penelope unknown about the "surprise".
