Nefertiti was always an adventurous young woman. To taking a senior trip to Cairo; going zip-lining in Fremont Park at SlotZilla, taking shots in London, England with her mother and swimming in the Atlantic. But she never really prepared herself for the college life. Being born and raised in Miami, Florida, meant that her life was always full of fun, life and laughter. But college? Especially for her junior year at Florida A&M? She has to stick it out as much as possible.

Her first year was hard. Like extremely because, she was struggling with her basics and it was getting to her. Studying to have a degree in music, was harder than she thought. But she's doing it for her, for her family. Being the second one in her family to go to college has been a blessing.

Taking care of her 3 brothers and sisters has been her life. Well being the 2nd oldest and all, because her older brother Jaylin went to Southern Univeristy as well. Now it was her turn.

"Mija! Come help me with dinner!" Regina, a gorgeous Afro-Latina mother of 5, has always wanted her kids to have a better life than what she had growing up. What parent wouldn't?

"I'm coming! I'm coming. I had to make sure my bag was packed for school again. Junior year is here and I have one more year to go. I'm ready to be done."

The smile on her mother's face was nothing but joy. She loved how head strong her kids were, and her husband, Julian, was proud too.

"Well good. I'm glad you're excited. Your abuelos, would be proud. Now come on and help. I know M'Baku is coming over too."

The heat rose to her cheeks, as she helped cook dinner. M'Baku and Nefertiti have been inseparable since freshman year at FAMU. Her family loves him and vice versa. As she was cutting the limes, her mind drifted to their first meeting.

-First year of college, a week before classes start-

"Why is everything costing so damn much for some books?"

Doing her research in the city library, for school books, Nefertiti was going hard on looking for stuff for her classes. Highlighting key factors; circling deals, calling the stores and ended up short every time.

Patting her head a bit, which was up in a head wrap, she sighed heavily a bit before a gentle voice came by her right side.

"Have you tried Amazon?"

The voice was sweet and thick like a honey mango. Ok so maybe she was too into her head, but the voice could melt butter. Turning towards the voice, she saw the face and body to match. And boy, did it match.

"Uh no. I haven't yet, didn't think about it till now."

"Well it helps me a lot. Couldn't help but see you were frustrated, so I decided to help. The names M'Baku."

He offers his hand to shake, and she gladly took it. No hesitation or anything, just a simple firm handshake. She spoke gently, telling him her name.

"Nefertiti."

"Nice to meet you Nefertiti. Judging by your schedule, it seems as though we go to the same school and we have chemistry together."

Oh she felt chemistry alright. Her body hummed gently at the tone of his voice and she noticed a slight accent.

"Your accent is very distinct. I catch it every now and then. What country?"

"Ah beautiful and smart. Wakanda, is where I'm from. I hear a little accent in your voice too. Let me guess, Dominican Republic?"

She was intrigued by how he guessed but, then remembered the jean vest she had on. Which had the flag of the DR, sewn into it, along with many other things.

"Wakanda huh? Hmm never been and very scarcely heard of it. You just looked at my jacket didn't you?"

She caused a laugh to escape from his full lips that she wanted to kiss so badly, but remembered her mother's words to her: "you go to school for learning and getting a degree. Not to give boys a ride of their life." Her mother always had a way with words and cherished them.

"I did. Can't blame a guy for trying though right?"

"Can't really."

The awkward silence between them stood still for about 5 seconds till she spoke.

"Listen. I don't have many friends yet, and school doesn't start for another week. How about we become friends?"

"I'd liked that. Wanna go grab some food?"

He offered his arm to her to hook hers in, after she gathers her belongings.

"Sure. I know this great Mexican food place, best tacos."

"Let's go."

-End Flashback-

The smile on Nefe's face, at memory, was a sweet one. They had each other's back from then on, and have supported one another through all the trials and tribulations. But yet, people change, along with their hormones and emotions. Who knows what'll happen for these two. Only the sounds of jazz music and smells of southern cooking, were prominent in her mind.
