Caroline POV:
I sat down with Sarah, Harper, Alex, Finn, and Molly and some other kids. We all have first lunch together and get Molly to get us lunch before she comes to school cause she has a free 2nd block. finn made a funny joke about the subway molly got us and we all laugh, except Sarah. I looked over and saw she was staring at Oliver across the lunchroom. I kick her across the table and she gives me the look she gives people when she's nervous. I grab my Juul and show it to her signaling her to the bathroom. she gets up without having a second thought and walks towards the bathroom.
Oliver: Hey Sarah!
Sarah: Caroline help
Caroline: um hes coming
Sarah: ughh
* Sarah and Caroline try their best to avoid him but they get blocked in by the rest of the juniors.*
Oliver: Hey Sarah, I haven't seen you since last summer
Sarah: wow you look great
Oliver: thanks, you too
Caroline: hi I'm Caroline
*Caroline introduces herself to one of the cuter boys in the group*
Sarah: ok Caroline lets go
RG: Wait
* they hear a random guy yell and s&c turn around*
RG: yall got any pods.
Oliver: come on dude, sorry
Sarah:*pulls one out of back pocket* I got you
RG: thanks
Sarah and I quickly walked to the bathroom and got into the big stall.
Sarah: no, no, that's soo embarrassing
Caroline: What! no, you looked great out there.
Sarah: are you going to the party at grays tonight?
Caroline: you know it! wanna get ready together?
Sarah: Ya I just got sent in these new jeans and I think im gonna wear it with my white tank top
Caroline: are you getting in more clothes from California today
Sarah: ya I think they should be here by tonight.
Caroline: I'll just look through those
Sarah: ok, I guess I'll just get some white claws from Owen?
Caroline: ya he still owes me for doing the dishes for him
Sarah: *giggles* god, I miss my brother being home
Caroline: ya ill be sad to see Owen leave next year but he's going to Chapel Hill with your brother next year.
*molly walks in*
Molly: Hey Sarah, you're getting checked out
Caroline: where are you going?
Sarah: I don't know, maybe my mom just wants to go shopping
Molly: you're so lucky
Sarah: you would rather be in school than shop with my mom, trust me
Sarah POV
The girls laughed and I walked out to my lunch table and grabbed my book bag. I said bye to Finn as he cracked another joke to the rest of the table. He really was the class clown and I loved Finn for that. His comedian personality was one of the reasons he stayed in our friend group. He didn't live in the same neighborhood as the rest of us and didn't have the same money but no one really cared. I always thought he was really cute and all the most girls had a crush on him but he had been dating a girl until last month and they broke up cause she cheated on him. We all warned him but we had heart eyes for that girl.
I walked towards the office to see my mom standing there with a concerned look on her face.
Sarah: hey mom
Mom: hey Sarah! Wanna go get some lunch at Rigleys or something.
My mom only took me to Rigleys when something was wrong. Rigleys is an ice cream parlor at the beach. My mom only takes me there when something is wrong. Last time we went there she told me that we were selling our Hamptons house, but it was ok cause we bought a bigger one ( it was Caroline's idea, go figure).
I got into the car and put on the country radio as we drove to Rigleys. Once we got there my mom sat us at a booth and we ordered a strawberry Sunday. I waited for the bad news but it never came until we finished the ice cream.
Mom: so you remember my college roommate Mary right?
Sarah: ya the one who works in movies
Mom: yes, so, she is moving up to California and her son is coming to live with us
Sarah: huh?
Mom: ya he's your age and his name is-
Sarah: why can't he stay with his dad?
Mom: look, Sarah, Mary is one of the nicest people ive ever met and I owe her the world. His father does not want his over at this house and frankly, I don't want him over there either. She let me stay with her all summer one year when my parents moved to NY. He's just gonna live in your brother's room-
Sarah: are you serious I just got the bathroom to myself
Mom: it will be good for the whole family. You hate being an only child and it's so quiet in the house without your brother.
I thought about it for a second, how bad could it be. I did hate having all my parents attention for the past 6 months and the house was quiet.
Sarah: ya I guess your right, how long is he staying?
Mom: as long as Mary needs him to stay.
Sarah: when is he coming?
Mom: um that's the thing, he's coming tonight
Sarah: oh my god mom, you need to warn me about these things.
Mom: sorry it was last minute.
My mom waved the check and we went home to go set up my brother's old room. We made the bed and cleaned out the closet.
Sarah: so what's his name
Mom: Finnegan
Sarah: oh, that's an odd name
Mom: really, I kinda like it
Sarah: can't wait to meet him *sarcastically*
Mom: imagine being him right now
Sarah: true
