Ryans POV
The day I'd been dreading had finally come. And it was like i was living a nightmare.
Ember has been making steady progress over the past two weeks that he'd been with me. My cute little neko had been improving in leaps and bounds and id let him have his time to adjust and be free. And heres where the problem lies.
I decided that it was time to add some rules to our relationship. Nothing too difficult to begin with but enough to start laying down boundaries for Ember. For example rule 1 was to address me as sir or master as he is most comfortable referring to me as such. Rule 2 was to be in bed by 10.30pm every night and awake and ready by 8am each morning unless instructed otherwise. Rule 3 is to eat 3 meals per day. Rule 4 is to treat any guests with respect and to address them as sir or madam unless instructed otherwise.
I believed 4 rules would be a good start and then we'd add more when necessary. But clearly i was wrong.*Earlier that afternoon*
Ember jumped as the doorbell rang through the quiet house, making me chuckle as i made my way to the door, Ember in tow.
"Its about time. Thought you werent in." A cocky deep voice spoke as i opened up the front door.
"I shouldve known," i chuckled as i looked at my best friend Leo standing on the doorstep.
"Well you gonna let me in or what?" He grinned as he took a step towards the door.
All smiles faded when a series of hisses errupted behind me. I glanced down in shock at my little kitty. His hair stood on end as he bared his little fangs at my friend. He half hid behind me as his trembling hands gripped my shirt, his nails digging into my side.
"Whats this little kitty doing here?" Leo asked with humour in his tone.
His words snapped me out of my shock, "Ember! What on earth are you doing?" I said. I was truly shocked that he'd even thought of doing something so disrespectful.
My raised voice startled the growling kitty, his claws digging further into my side making me flinch. My heart broke as i looked into his tear filled eyes but i had to remain firm. I couldn't give into his tears, not in front of my friend, but I still knew that Ember wouldn't do something without a reason.
"Explain your actions Ember. Now." I spoke firmly, watching as he shrunk further into my side.
A minute or so went by and Ember hadn't uttered a word to explain himself and I grew impatient. Without a second thought I grabbed him by the scruff of his shirt and marched him into his room. I shoved him a little harder than intended, making him trip and fall ungracefully onto the floor. I swallowed back the sorrow before looking him dead in the eye, "you will remain in here and think about your actions. When I come to get you later on I expect a full explanation otherwise there will be further consequences." I growled as best I could before slamming the door shut, not being able to look at his tear stained face any longer.
Walking back into the living room was hard. My heart hurt and my mind kept playing the image of his face over and over again. He looked so scared and betrayed but I couldn't let him get away with it, I had to be firm no matter how hard it was.
"Hey man, look I'm sorry about Ember. He's only been here about two weeks so he's still learning. Your the first person he's met actually." I sighed as I threw myself down onto the sofa opposite Leo.
"He's just a scared little kitty, it's fine." The smirk on Leo's face unnerved me somewhat, like he knew something I didn't.
"Yeah well it still doesn't excuse his behaviour. So what did you come all this way for?" The smirk dropped from his face as he slouched back into the chair, casually folding his left leg over the right knee.
"I want him back."
"Who?" I asked.
"My little kitty." Leo smirked. "I realised my mistake too late. You see I went back to the shop I had sold him to only to find out that he had already been taken by someone else. I was mortified, until the owner told me who had taken my kitten." He sighed and lounged back against the sofa, "it's only luck that it happened to be someone I actually knew."
My eyes grew wide as I took in his words. This person sitting in front of me was someone I knew as a friend, but now he just looked like a complete stranger to me. He was one of the ones responsible for hurting Ember and that made my blood boil.
"Get out." I seethed through gritted teeth.
Leo tilted his head to the side, the amused smirk still sitting on his pale thin lips. He didn't move and we stared at each other for a few more moments before I'd had enough.
"Get out now!" I jumped to my feet and made to grab Leo, but he easily avoided me.
"I'll leave for now, but I will be back for him." He threatened before leaving, slamming the door behind him as I stood seething in the middle of the living room.Embers POV
Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid! How could I be so stupid? I should've just kept quiet, then master wouldn't hate me right now. I curled further into a ball, hugging my knees tightly to my chest as I sobbed.
After master left I had crawled over to my cage that sat in the corner of the room and shut myself in cramped space provided some comfort as it allowed me to remember where I stood. I was a slave, a toy, a puppet for master to use and do whatever he wanted with. I had forgotten that because of his kindness. I had taken it for granted and now look what happened.
I don't even know what possessed me to growl at that man. I know he was horrible to me, all of my previous masters had been too, but not once had I ever acted out like that. I couldn't even tell master when he asked me.
My small ears twitched and I flinched as a door slammed shut somewhere in the house. Moments passed before I heard footsteps stop at my door.
I held my breath, shutting my eyes tight as the door slowly creaked open. I couldn't stop my body from trembling in fear as I tried desperately to hold in the little whimpers that escaped.
"Ember," masters voice made me flinch even though it had only been a soft whisper. "I'm so sorry Ember."
I lay still. Why was he apologising? A sob echoed round the silent room making me open my eyes in confusion. I didn't make that sound. My heart broke as my eyes laid upon masters large form huddled next to my cage. His back was against the wall and his knees were drawn up into his chest as he sobbed into his hands. I didn't like that. Master shouldn't be sad, he shouldn't cry over someone like me. I wasn't worth it.
Slowly I uncurled myself and stiffly crawled out of the safety of my cage, feeling immediately over exposed. Carefully I sat in front of master and reached out a shaky hand. He looked up at me when I patted his knee gently, his eyes were red and puffy and his usual neatly styled hair was sitting in a messy heap on top of his head.
"Ember I'm so sorry. You should've told me. I wouldn't have let him in, I wouldn't have treated you the way I did." He cried, "god I'm horrible. I'm just like all the others that have hurt you."
"No your not." I whispered throwing myself into him. "Your nothing like them!" I sobbed into his chest as his arms gently curled round me, holding me to his chest.
"I don't deserve you Ember." He buried his head into my shoulder, hugging me closer.
Smiling I gently ran my slim fingers through his tangled hair, smoothing it out. "I love you. So I forgive you." I whispered gently in his ear.Erm yeah...I might change this chapter later on as I feel it's lacking something but I just can't figure out what right now so bear with me please I just really wanted to get something out to you guys. Also I was thinking of moving this book towards a ddlb relationship ... let me know what you all think in the comments!
