Is that OK?
I didn't have the heart to tell her. Wearing the suit was terrifying for me. I took off my glasses. And nodded reluctantly.
I don't have a job. It's near impossible for me to make money. I wanted to contribute too. It's seemed unfair to put all of this on her.
The drive to the site was silent. I didn't want to know the details. I knew what I'd be doing. Best to just get it over with and not worry about how bad it was going to be. As the car slowed I could feel the music pulse in the air. I felt chills. Saw flashes of the last few jobs.
The room was dim. I didn't hear any music. Just whispers. I opened the brown paper bag and tried to look at it, but the room was too dark. It was black. I could feel something hanging off the sides.
A voice came from behind me.
You're on soon. Almost done?
Yes. Just need a few minutes. Can you turn up the lights?
They laughed. I was instantly blinded as roof was torn off the dressing room. I was still zipping my the back when everything came into view. Everyone was laughing. I finished putting on the suit and looked down at myself.
An ant?!? Seriously. Chills turned to icicles my mind began to spin. Fuck! What is this place? Where is she?
My eyes adjusted. The room was full of people. They seemed to be sloshing about. I guessed they were drunk or on some drugs. Either way I didn't feel safe.
I looked at my “stage”.
I was on a pedestal. The edges didn't have any railing. I walked as far as I could and looked down. It was... It was... So far.
The voice was back. This time it was on the loudspeakers. I turned around and saw her. She was face to face with me. I stumbled and fell. My arm went over the edge.
Did you hear me? Careful by the edge. Don't wanna fall off do you?
I looked down and saw the floor. She lunged around the pedestal. Pinched my arm in between her thumb and index finger. I felt my shoulder pop as I was ripped off the floor and into the air.
Everyone cheered. I screamed in pain. My voice filled the room.
Slow down there sport. We'll get to that.
