Hello and welcome to Chats with Charlie! I'm @charlieq2014 and this is my brand new platform where I get to chat with all your favourite Wattpad authors about their works! My first guest is a real-life friend of mine and while she is no stranger to Wattpad, this is her first attempt at writing! Allow me to introduce my interviewing guinea pig and close friend, @steviejayne03!

Right, so to start, tell us a bit about yourself for readers who may not have heard of you before!

Okay, so my name is Stevie, I'm currently 15 but I'm 16 this year. I have a few hobbies such as dancing and playing the guitar and, of course, reading and writing. I can't really think of much else!😂😂

And how long have you been on Wattpad?

I started out on Wattpad in Year 8 [and we've just finished Year 11! ] when I decided to start my own fan-fiction because that what all my friends were doing. I later deleted it because it was a hot mess and now I currently have a book named 'Molly' that I've started writing. Overall, I've been on Wattpad for 3-4 years.

So what's the story behind 'Molly'?

So without giving too much away, 'Molly' is about a girl called Molly (what a shocker) who meets a guy named Ethan who is a drug addict and slowly the reader sees his bad habits start to rub off on her until it's too late for her to go back to the goody two shoes she once was.... it's basically a whole load of teenage angst in a book.

And from the author's perspective, why should people read your book?

It has a sense of eeriness to it which I personally like in a book. The reader isn't specifically told things but shown them implicitly which keeps the reader thinking. It really keeps the reader on their toes in a way that I personally haven't experienced on Wattpad. Personally, when I read books, I like to interpret things in my own way and figure things out for myself and I think that's quite common for a lot of people and this book allows you to do just that, without being predictable.

So what do you hope readers will get from it?

I'm not too sure really. I'm hoping they enjoy it obviously. The book is meant to be different and abstract so more than anything I hope the readers will find enjoyment from reading it and enjoy a darker writing style. I want it to be one of those books that you can't stop reading.

So what are your favourite genres? Are they the same for reading and writing?

My favourite genres are definitely different when it comes to reading and writing. When reading I love dystopian books (and occasionally a good ol' rom-com) books such as 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' by George Orwell really keep my interest. When writing, however, my taste changes completely. I love writing about eerie and taboo topics and I tend to keep a dark undertone to my books.

So with your current book, would you say it's combining those rom-com elements you enjoy reading about with the darker elements you're used to writing about?

Yes absolutely, there is definitely some sort of romance between the two characters. Ethan is your stereotypical bad-boy and Molly is the complete opposite so naturally, Ethan's character will come off as a lot more mysterious and intimidating to the reader. There is definitely a connection between the two characters but with Ethan's bad-boy persona and the whole plot of the story in general, the two genres have definitely been combined for this particular story.

And how have you found the whole writing experience since restarting your Wattpad page?

It's been very positive, I haven't received any negative feedback on my book (yet, negativity is inevitable) and I have received some very nice comments that people have sent me through private messages. Overall, my writing experience has been quite positive which I'm happy about, of course.

How difficult have you found the actual writing? Do you have a particular time or place that you like to write in?

I write whenever I'm free to be totally honest and recently that's been quite hard because of school and exams. When I do write, however, it's normally in bed and I'll have a candle burning, I find that it helps to keep a peaceful atmosphere which keeps me inspired and focused on what I'm doing.

Lmao I'd probably knock it over and burn my house down! And I'm a bit like you - I just write anywhere just whenever I feel like it!

Lmaoooo I'm surprised I haven't destroyed my house yet tbh 😂

Anyway, so what's next for you? You've started 'Molly' but what are your hopes and plans for after?

Well, I'd like to finish "Molly" before starting any other books however I'd also love to start a blog or something similar on Wattpad as it would be something I'd quite enjoy doing something that's a little more light-hearted and fun.

It'd also be a great way to notify your readers with any updates! Anyways I can't wait to see what you do next but before we wrap up here is there anything you want to add or anything you want to ask me?

Nothing is coming to mind so I think we've covered everything!

Okay great! Well, thanks for your time and maybe we'll do this again sometime! You can find Stevie's book, 'Molly' as part of the accompanying reading list to this book on my profile as well as a range of works from other interviewees!

Join me next time when I'll be interviewing another up-and-coming author! Bye for now!
