Hello and welcome back to Chats with Charlie! I'm @charlieq2014 and this is where I get to chat with all the best authors Wattpad has to offer! My guest this time is one of my best friends on here and we often swap ideas and writing tips, and having read her books, I can safely say she is a great storyteller! It's @HannahDottier!
So to start, just for any readers that aren't familiar with your work, give us a brief introduction of yourself!
Okay, well I'm Victoria. I write fanfics for multiple fandoms, although currently I only have three Marvel fics out.
Nice! Just before I ask you about those, what's the story behind your username? Why did you decide to use a pen name?
Well, when I was younger, my father would always read me a story before bed. In one of these books, there was a character named Hannah Sigridsdottir and I fell in love with her basically. However, I made a spelling error while making my username but I just never wanted to correct it. That's why it's 'HannahDottier' instead of 'HannahDottir' as it should be.
That's actually a really nice story!
Thanks!
So who was Hannah?
Well, she was the younger sister of the ruler of a futuristic version of Greenland, which was then named Tulle, after World War 3. Basically, it had been decided in Tulle that only women were allowed to rule because the wars were supposedly caused by men in power. The books actually follow the story of her nephew but somehow her bravery always called out to me and it still does. The title of the book was 'De Kinderen van Moeder Aarde'. Or in English, 'The Children of Mother Earth'.
It sounds like a great book! So as a strong independent female character has she had an influence on any of your own stories?
I think she does, I mean it was years ago that my dad read the book to me but I do think she still had an impact on my characters, especially Freya from my book, 'Dynasty'.
Yeah, I was seeing the parallels there too! So for the readers who haven't heard of 'Dynasty', from the author herself, what's it about?
Well, it's basically about Freya Odinsdottir, the younger sister of Thor and older sister of Loki. She's the goddess of love and battle. In the 1930s to 1940s, Freya frequently visited Bucky Barnes and fell in love with him. 'Dynasty' follows Freya's journey in the MCU.
And on your behalf, I can safely say it's a great book!
Thanks!! It means a lot to me.
Is it your most treasured book?
I do think it is. I mean it's the first book on Wattpad that I didn't give up on after a few months and I am forever happy that I didn't
What made you decide to start writing it?
Well while watching the movies I always had a character forming in my head and after some time Freya was created. I looked up my Norse mythology book to get some inspiration and then it started.
And what is it that makes this book so special that you've persevered so much and carried on writing it?
Maybe it's the fact that I based Freya on so many characters and it inspired me to do better even. But also I guess it was also a type of getaway card for whenever things got too stressful or anything.
So what's next for Freya? Any hints or teasers for us?
All I'm saying is that I have some plans for her powers. She will finally reunite with someone and she might want to practice giving commands.
And the Thor, Freya and Loki edit may or may not include a scene I actually have planned.
