The Art of Aggravation
After Cody leaves Lucy's, Kris takes his seat across from me, her expression still slightly horrified. "You okay?"
"Oh, Kris, I am just peachy."
"Sorry."
Silence.
Kris tugs on a strand of her hair. "So," she says, "Cody Kent is back in town."
I tilt my head at her. "Is he?"
She looks down and swallows. "Listen, Spring, this year? It's gonna be hard. But you can't let him get to you. You gotta stay strong."
I shake my head. "I know. I'll try."

Orientation was awful. It mostly consisted of questions from the few friends I have, hard glares from the Populars, and those stupid little smirks from my new best friend.
It's the first day of school now, and I wonder if I'll suddenly be plucked out if my crappy spot on the social ladder and escorted to Popularity, now that Cody doesn't seem to want to part with me. It turns out, my social status is even worse. Mia Bulls, Landry Kerstly, Taylor Rist, and Amy Palice all had their eyes set on Cody, and apparently now he can't date anyone because of our relationship. Which, might I add, is nothing short of loathing. At least on my part.
Most of the first week is uneventful, apart from the occasional frustration in art or guitar. But on the third Thursday of the year, Mr. Free, the counselor, informs me that Cody is failing - five of his classes. As his guide, I'm required to TUTOR HIM. Can you believe it?
So anyways, the Monday after, I get out of Kris's car and part with her, as I have science first period and she has athletics.
"Good morning, Sandy," I hear from beside me.
Without turning, I know who it is. "It was," I respond.
Cody ignores me. "So, Sandy, as you know, I'm not doing so well in school right now. Mr. Free seems to think that I should be tutored, and he responded with the name Summer Sterling when asked who should be the one to carry out the deed. I'm going to need a favor, Sandy. I'm going to need you to tell this Summer Sterling that she's needed at my house at 4:15 this afternoon to be my tutor."
I stop suddenly. "Your house?"
"Why not?"
"Why not Lucy's?"
He grins. "I work better with a little privacy."
I sigh and reluctantly agree to carry on the information. "Fine. I'll tell her. But don't get you panties in a twist if she doesn't show. I've heard she's not your biggest fan."
"I don't think it's my panties you have to worry about," he whispers disgustingly. He winks and leaves me there, rolling my eyes once more. I swear, my eyes are going to get stuck like that if I keep hanging around him.
