I never actually got accustomed to the freezing cold weather of London's winters. Don't get me wrong, I love London, but the cold was hard to used to. But one thing that I easily got used to in the winter was spending the stormy days inside, watching movies and staying warm with my best friend.
As I stood in the kitchen, boiling hot water for tea, I stared out the window and watched the heavy snow fall. The ground was covered in a thick, white blanket and the trees had lumps of snow collecting on their branches. I laughed to myself, thinking back on the time when I told my uncle I was moving to London. His words echoed through my head; The snow is gonna kill ya, kid.
"What's so funny?" the very familiar voice of my best friend asked. I wasn't even facing him, but I could tell by his tone that he had his well-known cheeky grin plastered across his face.
I turned to face him and laughed lightly again, but this time because my guess about his expression was spot on. I knew him too well.
"Nothing," I said, busying myself once again, pouring the hot water into mugs that I already set out with tea bags and putting the right amount of sugars in for each of us.
"Weirdo," Liam said, not digging any further. He walked over to other side of the room and opened a cabinet, just like he always did. He had been over so many times, I eventually told him to take out whatever he wanted himself. "Oooh! You have Twix!" he cheered.
"Yeah, I got them cause I knew you were coming over," I said, shaking my head at how excited he got over candy.
"Thank you, Darcy!" he yelled as he spun in circles in my kitchen. I stood bent over, laughing at the foolish boy I called my best friend.
When he stopped, I stood up straight and just watched him as he grinned like a small child would after their mum said they can get their favorite toy. He ran up to me and kissed my cheek before running out into the lounge with the bag of Twix in his hands. I couldn't help but blush. It was obviously the two of us both liked each other. And if his actions weren't enough proof, all the other boys telling me everyday how much he talks about me definitely was. I was just waiting for him to make a move.
When I walked into the lounge with a mug in each of my hands, I saw Liam sprawled out on the floor with a huge blanket wrapped around him and pillows lined up by his head.
"Liam, what the hell are you doing?" I asked as I placed our mugs on the coffee table next to him.
"Come here!" he whined. I rolled my eyes at him but couldn't hide the smile creeping onto my face.
I groaned jokingly as I sat down next to him and he wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "Darcy, Darcy, Darcy," he dragged on.
"What?" I asked, completely clueless.
"Naive little Darcy," he said, still speaking in an all knowing tone.
"Liam! What is it?" I said, getting frustrated.
"You really don't know just how cute you are," he mumbled as twirled one of the loose curls of my medium length brown hair.
"What are you going on about?" I asked nervously. I wasn't exactly sure what he was trying to get to, but I didn't want to jump to any conclusions incase it wasn't what I thought.
"Darcy, I really like you," he said, his green orbs staring directly into my hazel eyes. I didn't move, not sure what to say or do. "I think you've known that though," he continued.
"Uh, y-yeah, the other boys said it a lot but I didn't really believe them," I said, looking into my lap and blushing.
"Well, they were right." Liam suddenly looked and sounded really disappointed. I snapped my head up and saw his gaze focusing on the wall in front of him.
"Liam," I said softly, pulling his attention to me. "I thought it was really obvious that I like you."
"What?" he asked, his face lighting up.
I nodded my head with my eyes closed. "Yeah, I've liked you for so long, too."
Liam wrapped his strong arm around my shoulders and pulled my into him. I snuggled my body into his side and rested my head against his chest, content. I smiled to myself, feeling at peace for finally telling him the truth. And it was only 100 times better that he felt the same way.
