I didn't realize I had fallen asleep only until Dusty had woken me up to get some breakfast at a diner we had just gotten too called; "El Cafè."
While walking into the diner my eyes still adjusting to the light, I didn't think anything of what I was wearing until a girl in a too tight of a pink crop top and a high blond pony tale, was eyeballing me. Well she was eyeballing my army green shirt that had maybe 2-5 holes in it from fighting James off of me the other day. I was also wearing my tan colored cargo pants, and I guess my fatty hair didn't make my image any better but I couldn't give any fucks at all.
The girl smirked at me, and turned around whispering to the girl sitting next to her in a shirt like hers but purple unlike slutty Cinderella her hair was dark brown and long that hung right below her shoulders. Both girls  didn't seem to be wearing a bra they giggled as I passed them. As if I should be a laughing stock right now, they look like they took their 11 year olds sister cloths.
Then they hit me with a good ole classic,
"Where'd you get your clothes? The dumpster?" They turned to each other and giggled again. This was probably all that I could handle within a 24 hour time span.
I stopped cold in my tracks and gave the back of  Dustys head a smirk and spun around on my heels. I marched to their table stopping right in front of them I rested both of my hands on the table. The girls seemed to have lost their train of thought with their lips twisting in disgust they scanned me with their eyes obviously not liking what they see.
"Excuse me?" Pink said, "can we help you?" Her prissy attitude shines through and so did her inner bitch. Purple's eyes dazzled and her light magenta lipstick almost blinded me I had to look away.
"Yeah like are you lost?" Purple spoke picking at her nails.
"No honey I'm not," I laughed devilishly, "I just wanted to say I got my clothes from the store and not my 4th grade sister." Pinks mouth fell open and her eyes scolded me.
"What did you just say to me you fly?!" What little authentic confidence she had came out.
"Yeah, I don't want to show the whole work my rack because my respect for myself is probably as big as your daddy issues." And with one final snort from the girls and a smirk from me I left the two with something spicy to talk about. Obviously Purple and Pink had real bad issues, and always got what they wanted. It was just obvious.
I walked away sitting down in front of Dusty who wasn't fazed by my actions. He had already ordered both of us coffee. Black. I was just about to start talking but then I heard,
"What a bitch." I balled my fists and twisted my lips together. Maybe a few more holes won't hurt.
"Nix no." My brother grabbed my arm before I had a chance to even stand up. I could feel
The girls shit colored eyes burning a whole into the back of my head.
"They are most defiantly not worth it." He picked up his coffee and took a sip.
"Drink your coffee." He said, setting his down. My fists were still balled up into rocks because I could still hear how they were saying and I quote,
"Too bad she's a rat, I would totally bang him." Talking about Dusty. Why I outta show them what a good time I could give them. I would rock their world real good. A small smirk crossed my lips as I pored sweet packets into my coffee.
"Drink, stop thinking about them, and drink your coffee." He nodded to my coffee. Was it obvious that I wanted to rip their head off? like how in the world was Dusty this calm? He could obviously hear them, God how he has changed. A year ago he would have wanted to take all of their mommies money watch it spill out of their heads.
I rolled my eyes and reluctantly took a sip of the steaming hot black coffee.
"Where's Axel?" I didn't remember if he told me already so I ask him.
"back at base." The waitress laid down 2 plates of biscuits and gravy in front of us. Dusty stared at them like they were gold, one thing Dusty loved more then me was food. I guarantee that. This was the Dusty I knew. The one that was currently drowning the gravy with all the pepper he could find.
"Wait, I thought that Axe was a college student, I didn't know he joined the police academy." I furrowed my eye brows at Dusty who was already stuffing his face.
"He didn't." He didn't look up at me instead he kept eating and eating and eating.
"Why aren't you eating." He wiped his mouth with a napkin in one hand, a fork with a mouthful of food on the other. He eyeballed my plate then me.
"Why aren't you telling me everything?" I leaned forward careful not to get my long dog tags in the gravy. He laid down his fork and folded his hands together.
"I told you it's hard to explain everything." He rubbed his bruised knuckles.
"Look, even if I did know how to  start explaining, now wouldn't be the best time." He took a sip of his coffee.
"What why?" I said my voice rising a little bit. Dusty shot me a disappointing look before leaning closer to me.
"Because I don't know who might be listening to us. I can't just open my mouth wherever or whenever I want." He whispered. This is it, Dusty's done gone mad. I rubbed my eyebrows.
I had no idea what he was talking about. He wasn't even making any since, so I rolled my eyes and took a bite of my breakfast. I may be in an annoyed mood but dang was I hungry. I hadn't had anything this good since the last time I saw the boys. Axel would whip up some amazing meals, my favorite? His Mac n' Cheese, or as Dusty wants to call it, Mac n' Sneeze. Just because Dusty can't cook and Axel can he thinks he has the right to call cheesy heaven a snot infestation. This guy.
"Can I get a coffee please? To go?"I heard a lively voice behind me. It seemed to be quirky and amusing.
"Sure thing Sunshine." The cashier seemed to already know him. I didn't think anything of it until I saw the black and white converse standing right beside me.
"Hey, sorry about those girls." The same spunky voice said to me. I looked up and was met by a boy around my age. With dark rich hair that seemed to go into every other direction. His eyes were slanted and his brown skin seemed to be almost gold in the sun light. Those small slanted eyes still showed just how dazzled they could be when his smile seemed to stretch across his wide face. Oh that smile was tattooed on his face. A since of wonder seemed to hit him when I decided to acknowledge him.
"uh no problem?" I glanced over at Dusty who seemed just as confused as I was.
"Woe, your eyes." He leaned in a bit closer to me, a little too close.
"All right there pal?" Dusty leaned forward a bit, "back it up." Dusty was already holding out a hand to his chest to separate me and the amused boy.
"Ahh sorry." He backed up rubbing a hand down his face, "it's just your eyes are so cool! I've never seen anything like that." He studied me closer.
"Yeah I was born like this." I studied him. He has a freckle right below his right eye, his face is round, but not too round to where his jaw line couldn't been seen. His face looked like it could crack at any second caused by the smile that was glued on. I could only guess this is why the cashier called him sunshine due to his bright complexion and his big beautiful smile. Even though he was a bright ball of light there was something about him, something in the way his voice was a bit raspy, he seemed like a happy-go-lucky type of guy. The fun spirited , but the way he was built obviously told me that he worked out. He had broad shoulders and big arms.
I scanned his left arm, it had 2 big black rings one bigger then the other, that could only be a tattoo. I wonder what they meant.
"The names Javier." He held out his hand I went to shake but Dusty stopped me by pretending to clear his throat. His way of telling me that I didn't know shit about this boy and I shouldn't do it.
He pulled his hand back and continued to talk, closing his mouth long enough to let me see the permanent dimples carved in beside his plump dark pink lips.
"Yeah those girls," He says rubbing the back of his neck not meaning to flex but he does, "go to my school, Stormy Eye High, and they're your classic High school bitches." He let out a loud deep laugh slightly looking over his thoughts shoulder at the girls.
Wait Stormy Eye High? I shoot Dusty a curious look.
"Go to hell sunshine." Pink yells at Javier, he turns around with another smile plastered on his face,
"Yes then I can finally meet your father." He laughs and blows her a kiss, I almost spit out my coffee when he says that Dusty actually does.
"You go to Stormy Eye?" I asked Changing the subject while maybe this boy named Javier would tell me something.
"Yeah!" He said enthusiastically, "why what's your power?" He flashed me another sneak peak at his dimples before letting his pearly whites out to play. This boy could probably get any girl he wanted. He Also obviously didn't know the meaning of personal space because within a matter of seconds he had taken a seat next to me. I am not crushed against the diner window.
    "Huh?" I questioned.
"I mean you can't go to S.E.H without having one. Everyone does!" He said waving his hands around in the air and totally ignoring the fuming Dusty on the other side of the booth.
"Well uh," I didn't get a chance to Finnish before the boy put his hand infront of him and began to focus on his palm like his life depended on it. Suddenly something started to accumulate, out of thin air, I couldn't believe my eyes when a little small, tiny Pebble appeared.
"Dude! Are you crazy?" My brother reached over the table grabbing the Javier's wrist before he could conjure up something else.
"What?" The boy still had a wide ass smile on his lips. He must be the happiest boy I have ever seen, or the stupidest because no one in the course of history would look at Dusty like that and get away with it.
"This town doesn't care about people and powers." Javier pulled his arm back rubbing his wrist. "I mean look around." He waved a hand to nowhere in particular.
With that I took a glance around the diner miss. Purple and pink over there had different hair, and eyes. Pink who was once a very bright blond now had midnight black hair and the other who had brown was now rocking a bright red bob. I glanced over behind Dusty, a teenage boy was flipping pages in his book without using his hands, a blue essence doing all of the work. The boy was controlling the blue presence with only his mind. All he had to do was look at the page and then it would turn. Like magic. But it wasn't magic, it was their mind.
"Wait, where are we?" Dusty asked Javier, "I didn't know we even crossed the portal to Meyersfeild." He looked out the window trying to find something.
"Yep Youre right outside the portal" Javier smirked while being handed his cup of coffee.
"thanks love." He took it with rosy red cheeks. I wonder if his face ever gets sore.
"Welp see ya at school," he paused like he was looking for something, "sorry I didn't catch your name."
    "That's because I didn't tell you." I said in a Matter-of-fact way.
"Right." His face went from excitement to bright red real fast.
"It's Phoenix." I smiled, "Phoenix Ruzial."
"I'll keep a look out for you." He went right back to smiling again his slanted eyes seemed to sparkle as much as I could tell.
"Yeah thanks." Dusty chimed in obviously not liking the situation of someone talking to his baby sister, that someone being a guy.
"Well I should go." He then turned but not before shooting me a wink and his signature smile.
I turned back to Dusty who was tracking Javier to a light blue beat up 1970's camaro. I'm guessing he saw me from inside because before getting into the car Javier shot me another smile and waved.
"I thought you lived in New York." I asked disappointed because all Dusty was doing was lying to me about everything.
"Why are we in Meyersfeild and what did you mean by Portal." I asked
"Nix." He opened his mouth but I already knew what he was going to say.
"yeah yeah yeah," I picked at my food, "you'll explain later" I set my chin on my hand.
I hear him sigh at the same time as I do.
"If you really wanna know." He stands up fishing money out of his wallet and throws it on the table.
"Then come on." He starts walking away, without anything else. And excitement accumulating in my chest I stand up scurrying after him.
"I bet she's going to finally gonna take a shower." The spoiled brats tell each other and giggle.
"Hey" I say walking backward getting their attention when I finally do I give them one big old middle finger before walking out the door.
I may have taken all kinds of shit from James but I was not about to take anymore.
Before getting in the truck Dusty smirks at me and gives me a laugh.
     "What?" I ask him.
"Nothing" he fumbled with his keys.
"No what is it?" I opened the door.
"Good job." He started the truck and gave me a small chuckle before heading on the road.
   "Thanks."
A couple minutes pass down the road before Dusty talks.
"Okay now in a few seconds don't be worried when you feel a sort of pressure." Dusty tells me.
"What-." And then it hit me, the pressure. I felt like I was slightly being sat on a 200 pound person. I clenched my eyes shut and held onto the 'oh shit handle.'
     within seconds it was gone,
"Your good Nix." He laughed, cautiously I opened my eyes and let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
When I opened my eyes I couldn't believed my eyes. There were sky scrapers everywhere, buildings in the shape of 'S', 'E', and an, 'A'.
There were people everywhere with smiles drawn on their faces. Some had stretchy limbs, a man with such, reached up to an apple tree that could have been at least 10 feet above his head, and all he had to do was reach up and grab it. like it was nothing.
Another person was literally walking on clouds. She had grey storm clouds under her feet and seemed to have a literal sun in her hand, and moon in the other.
"What is-." Then she did the most incredible thing. She put the moon and Sun together and made something beautiful, something magnificent. She made a planet. A whole different world. The planet was a deep magenta color. With light, light planes of light green and baby blue. This planet seemed to shine bright and beautiful. This girl did it like it wasn't a problem, like she had done this forever.
"She- just-." I couldn't believe my eyes when, she bent over and picked a piece of grass, gently blowing on it. This chick made a damn miniature tree. With ease she placed the tree into the little planet.
"That's Omega." Dusty waved at her. "She literally makes planets. Her sister Stardust creates stars." I watched others who seemed to be normal people do super natural things. My mind spun. How did this place even exsist?
"How are we here?"  I asked amazed.
"You have to have a power to be able to be here. Normal people just drive right on through. When we cross through we come here, they don't." He informed me.
"What, that's crazy." I leaned further to the window getting a closer look at the letter shaped buildings.
"What is that place." I wondered.
"The 's' is Stormy Eye High", he paused, "where you'll be."
"The 'E' is Stormy Eye Agency where Axel and I work, and go on missions to recruit and or stop Iris." He clenched his Jaw.
"Who's Iris?" I questioned as he stopped the car in-front of building E. He turned the car off and sat in silence for a moment or 2. When he didn't say anything I asked again because it seems as if he either didn't hear me or I said something wrong.
"Who's Ir-"She's who you have to stop." He looked up at me, his eyes were full of seriousness. The next thing he said sounded like a scene from a movie.
"Meyersfeild is in your hands Nix. Our fate, all these lives," He looks out upon all the happy faces, "Depend on you, we need you Nix, that's why I had to come get you, because your our only hope. With your power, your brain. We could stop Iris before she destroys us."
One thought came to my mind.
There is no way in hell he was telling me the truth. He's lying he has to be. I couldn't save everyone. I just can't.
