They called him The Nightmare.
He was something that struck in the night, something that haunted your thoughts, something that plagued your dreams. He was the most deeply feared agent in the agency. The NEW agency.
They say he could murder a family in three minutes flat. Break in, bullets through brains, walk out with neither a hair out of place nor a scream, upturned table or any sign of a struggle. The authorities wouldn't realise for days, weeks even. Not until work, school and neighbours had realised that the family's unexplained absence was not intentional. Not until someone found it out-of-place enough to care.
They also say he could ruin an illegal arms dealer in less than an hour. Break in, capture hostages, collect the weapons, gather paper evidence, walk out, send the evidence of to the agency and later on, the court, to persecute the hostages who had been locked up in the agency 'basement'. The bad guys never had a clue he was coming. He would change his mind, make rash decisions, leave the raid to chance. he would make it virtually impossible to know how, where, what, and especially, WHEN.
They say he had friend though. An apprentice. A sibling maybe. A shadow.
The say she was never seen. She lurked with her fellow shadows in dark alleys and back streets. She was always there but never participated in the mission. Always there, watching, learning, waiting.
The truth is she was only there some of the time. The rest she spent training and practicing the techniques The Nightmare had coached. She spent it reading about combat and the rules of the agency. She became an expert in criminal law, learning every single little loophole.
She loved the stories they told about her.
