A subtle wave of spring air blew through the wind that afternoon, chilling (Y/N)'s skin to the very core of her bundling nerves. The sweat that stained her skin had trickled down her neck, past her collarbone and beneath the loose fabric of her gym uniform. She looked up, squinting at the high sun that settled above scattered clouds. She covered the blinding light with her forearm before turning her attention back to the group around her.
Scattered conversation carried throughout the group of class 3-A. Unlike their first year, a sense of excitement was heavy in the air. Through the butterflies swarming in her stomach, even (Y/N) felt a glimmer of enthusiasm at the prospect of showing her growth over the past two years.
She looked around the clutter of students, her smile growing only when she saw calming lavender through the sea of navy blue. She managed her way through the students, mumbling half-hearted apologies before finally reaching Shinso. He greeted her with his usual small smile, but the twinkling of low-lid eyes was more than enough for (Y/N).
"You tired yet?" She asked him.
Shinso chuckled quietly, "Of course not." He breathed his reply. "Just a little disappointed we still have to do things like this."
"Right," (Y/N) nodded slowly. "Guess our quirks aren't really cut out for this, huh?"
The sound of snarling laughter raged from behind them, leaving Shinso with his mouth agape as (Y/N) turned to the obnoxious boy sauntering just a few feet away. (Y/N) grinned when her eyes caught the sight of burning scarlet ignited with a fiery desire. His necessity to win-much like his need to boast-had never been surprising to the young girl.
"Even if you had different quirks, they'd make no difference." Bakugou gloated with a wide grin. "Not when you're competing with me."
Those around them ignored the raging blonde. (Y/N) might have too, but something stopped her. The underlying malice dripped within his words were not directed to her-they never were-but instead, to the quiet lilac boy beside her.
Her eyes flickered to Shinso, unsurprised to find his demeanor as calm as ever. He continued to walk with his head high and his gaze low, seemingly unphased by Bakugou's challenging words.
"Shut up, Bakugou." (Y/N) scrunched her face to the spiky-blonde. "You know these tests are unfair."
Bakugou shook his head. "So what? You just give up then? Call it quits because they're "unfair"?" His voice weighed heavy with sarcasm. The entire time, his gaze remained fixed on the back of unruly lavender hair. (Y/N) only shook her head in disapproval.
"I'll make things fair for you then, dead-eyes," The menace in scarlet-eyes grew with every word. (Y/N) felt her skin tingle at the sight.
"I won't use my quirk for the next test. I'll show you that even at my weakest, you can't surpass me."
"And if we win?" (Y/N) questioned with crossed arms. Though she knew his words weren't meant for her, she also knew that Shinso would never respond to Bakugou's challenge. Not verbally, anyway.
Bakugou never hesitated as he pondered their reward. It was clear to (Y/N) that he only saw one outcome to this; victory.
"I'll treat you to dinner."
"From anywhere?" (Y/N) pressed, her thoughts already racing to the most expensive sushi place in Musutafu. High-end sashimi did sound extremely tempting to the young girl...
