Daisy and Chaise, walked slowly back up the concrete path. The atmosphere seemed quieter and somewhat empty without Parker. Chaise pushed open the heavy wooden door and stood aside to allow Daisy to enter before him. He watched as Daisy's brow furrowed and she raced forward, kneeling at the forgotten Ouija Board.

"What's wrong?" Chaise asked, following her nervously. Daisy said nothing, but her breathing became sharp and rapid. Chaise kneeled beside her and peered at the Ouija Board. He recoiled in shock and his heart skipped a beat.

The board lay open, the planchette moving independently in a slow, smooth circle.

"What's happening?" Chaise asked again, recognizing that his initial question had been ignored.

"Shut up." Daisy snapped, concentrating intently on the moving planchette. Her eyes widened suddenly and she stood, stepping back from the board.

"It's opening a portal. Get back, Chaise," she breathed, but Chaise didn't move. His gaze was locked to the board, his eyes following the planchette in its slow dance. He raised one finger in response but Daisy ignored it and reached for his shoulders, pulling him back. She grasped him by the wrists and dragged him away from the board in a futile attempt to protect him. Chaise shook his head, and came out of the trance-like state he was in.

"Stop it! I know how to fix this!" Chaise bellowed and yanked his arms from her tight grip. He stepped forward, grumbling, and kneeled again at the board. He pressed his middle and fore finger to the planchette.

"Don't do that!" Daisy interjected, biting her lip nervously.

"I do know what I'm doing," Chaise said. He pressed harder on the planchette and moved it slowly, as the planchette tried in vain to move in the other direction, to the bottom of the board where the word Goodbye was positioned. He struggled to keep the triangular pointer on the word until the resistance faded to nil. Sweating profusely, he sunk back onto his backside and took a deep breath of relief.

"Is it gone?" Daisy wondered aloud and Chaise nodded in reply.

I wonder if it was a demon, Daisy pondered, but didn't voice the question for fear of humiliation.

"I think we should leave the board alone for a while," Chaise said. "We don't want to come into any sort of contact with a spirit that can open our side of the portal."

"You're right; I should take it back to Parker. I can drop it off at his place on my way home," Daisy said. Both were still slightly shaken, and the board still lay open upon the floor. It now seemed to have an air of dark mystery around it instead of the fun, friendly atmosphere it formerly possessed.

"Chocolate mocha?" Chaise suggested. Daisy agreed readily; she needed something to calm her nerves and nothing could beat a hot, tasty drink. Chaise nodded and walked away towards the kitchen. Daisy watched him go, and then seated herself in one of the floral print armchairs, sinking into the plush pillows with a sigh.

Should we tell Parker about the portal?

Daisy contemplated the idea.

It's never happened before; we wouldn't want to worry him. I'd be terrified if I had that cursed board in my house, let alone use it again.

Daisy bit her lip and rested her head in her hands, supported by her elbows. Better not tell him.

At that moment Chaise walked back into the room, balancing the mugs and attempting not to spill the blistering hot liquid.

"Here you go," Chaise murmured as he handed Daisy the mug. "Careful, it's hot." Chaise sat in the chair beside Daisy, blowing on his mocha slightly to cool it. Words were scarce among them, and it took several minutes before either of them spoke.
