Chapter OneIt was cold. I felt as if I had cold water dumped on me. I could not see. Everything was a blur. When I got some of my vision I could see my mother looking at me with a smile on her face. "Momma?" I questionably asked. "Yes. I am your mother." She replied with soft words that I hope will always stay with her. She softly licked me mostly dry of the substance that was around my body. I looked at my surroundings. It was a box. A really big wooden box with a door and yellow soft stuff on the bottom of it that I lied on. There was also a weird looking creature in the corner of this box, looking at me, watching me with a smile across its face. "Where am I and what is that?" I asked her in curiosity and pointing my nose to the creature in the corner. "What you are in is called a stall. The stall is in a large building called a barn or stables. The soft comforting yellow stuff you lie down on is called straw. And the creature in the corner of the stall is called a Human. Her name is Lizzy." She replied. Now that I knew where I was, what I was in and what the creature was I became a little more comfortable. After a few more minutes my vision was almost 100%. I put my two front feet in front of me and started to push myself up. I faltered many times in trying to stand. Until finally after what seemed like a very long time I found my ground. As I tried to stand the human kept laughing at me softly. I got my footing onto the straw as I made my way over to my mother for my very first drink of milk. This milk would give me the antibodies that I needed to fight off infections and keep me healthy. It was nice and warm as I was a little bit cold. After my drink of milk I got very drowsy and decided to get some sleep. I more of fell than lied down on the straw. As I drifted off into a sleep I dreamed of what tomorrow would be like.
Chapter Two
The sun peaked through the walls of the stall and gleamed onto my eyes which forced me to wake up. I opened my eyes and adjusted to the bright light. I looked over to my mom who was munching on some hay for breakfast. I yawned and managed to stand up to get my breakfast too. It took me a couple of tries but I stood and made my way over to my mother. I found out that my mother's name was Jazz. She was called a black blanket appaloosa. And I on the other hand was a bay blanket appaloosa. I didn't yet have a name which I assumed Lizzy would chose for me today. After my mother and I finished out breakfast Lizzy came over to Jazz and led her out of the stall. I cautiously tottered behind her, watching the things around me. Lizzy brought my mom to a thing called a pasture where the other horses went to eat grass and play. After Lizzy unhooked my mother's halter she took off at a slow canter forgetting that I was there for a moment. I whinnied to her to let her know she was forgeting something. She quickly turned around and nickered to me softly to apologize. I nickered back to accept her apology. After that she walked me up the hill a little and showed me the huge field that the horses graze in. I was so amazed that I got excited and tried to buck around. Bad idea. The next thing I knew I was in my back and my feet were in the air facing the sky. Jazz laughed a little and I rolled my eyes at her before I rolled over my lowered my legs to the ground and stood up. I shook it off and then nipped my mother on her rump in a playful way for laughing at me. She nipped me back too. "Hey!" I playfully scolded her. "Karma!" she laughed. " Alright, alright. I'll let you get away with this one but next time there's no chances." I laughed. I then had an eerie feeling like someone was watching me. I looked down the hill and saw a bay stallion looking up at me. "Momma? Who is that bay stallion down there?" I asked. "That my darling is your father. His name is Sir Lancealot. He's one of the best stallions in Bear Creek Farm." I looked at him in awe. That magnificent stallion was my father. In total reaction I walked down the hill to greet him. I thought that Momma would try and stop me but she didn't. I stopped about half way down the hill to look up at her. She gave me a slow nod as if she wanted me to go down to greet him. I continued down the hill until I reached the bottom. I inched my way towards the husky stallion and looked at the ground. I was still a little shaken after I fell. Once I got inches away from Lancealot I looked him in the eyes. "He....h....hello sir." I stuttered. "I am the daughter of Jazz. Your daughter." I said to him in shy manor. "Well hello little one. I am very glad to finally meet you." He looked me up and down. His voice was deeper than I thought which made me a little nervous but I knew that I had nothing to be afraid of. "Nice to meet you too." I replied. A little more confident than last time. "Do you have a name yet?" He asked me, looking me in the eyes. "No sir I don't. Well not yet anyways." I told him. "Well I thought about it and I think that I have a name for you. How about......Annabelle. Belle for short." He told me. "I love it!" I replied. "Well that's a good thing. Now you go on back up to your mother Belle. And from now on you don't have to call me sir. Call me father." He replied. "Yes si......" I caught myself in the act. "I mean father." I corrected. after I tottered back up the hill to where my mother was. As I did so I heard my father chuckle a little as I struggled to make it up the steep hill. He came up behind me and gave me a little push before descending back down the hill. Once I got back to my mother's side we headed back down the other side of the hill to the fence to where Lizzy was waiting for us. She hooked the lead rope onto my mother's halter and led us back to the stables.
