In my experience, the first thing you need to do to get rid of gossip, is to admit the parts that are true.
This is the first step. If you get the fire out of the rumor, then people have no reason to continue spreading them.
Does this always work? No. No, it doesn't. But there is nothing really you can do about that part. People are going to spread rumors, even if they jut have to make something ip out of the top of their head.
Step two is not giving people a reason to gossip in the first place. If more people were honest with each other, then we would need no reason to try and stop gossip.
Honestly tell people if you don't like the things that they are wearing. That does not mean to be mean to them. Tell them the truth in a non offensive manner.
The third step is to not spread gossip about other people. Yes, sometimes that is a very hard thing to do. But somebody has to do it.
The third step I would have to say, something that worked for me, is just to ignore the gossip.
