Deception

Part 2

I suddenly wakes up, a bright light emerging from the tiny gap under my door.

"What...what time is it?" Confused but also too tired to process what could be happening right now, i picks up my phone,  trying to find the time.

"5:34 a.m" great and now I won't be able to get back to sleep.

I open up my best friends group chat, (ugh I still cant get over that name, I should probably change that soon), to see if anyone else would be awake.

*Two new notifications*

Huh that's odd, Emma sometimes stays up this late but never Casey as well.

Oh my god. "Guys, i think something's up, I can't find my parents. I'm home alone and I'm kinda freaking out, please reply as soon as you can-Casey"

"Omg Casey, the same thing happened to me, they would never leave me without telling me. All their stuff is still here too, and their car. I just saw a bright light and then poof, they're gone-Emma"

Sh*t, I completely forgot about the light. I jump out of my bed and rush over to the door. Ughhhhh the locks.

"Mum! Dad! Wait, don't leave, I'm coming!"

I rush back to my dresser and grab the bunch of keys, trying to keep focus. I panic and struggle to fit the them in their holes.

"Wait up! I'm coming, I swear!"

After what feels like an eternity later, I drag open the cement door and run into my parents room.

"M-m-mum, d-dad" They are both gone.

"Where are yous, this isn't funny. Mum I'm sorry about yesterday, I was just annoyed, I forgive you."

I run around the room, pulling off the neatly folded covers, nothing, opening the chest of drawers, nothing, opening up their phones, nothing, checking in the bathroom to see if there was any notes left, an explanation even, nothing nothing nothing, it's all the exact same. Just, without the actual things I'm looking for.

" No no no! This cannot be happening right now!" Suddenly everything starts spinning, I can't stand still. My vision is going blurry. My words are spurred.

"Don't worry mum and dad, I'm-I'm coming"  Then all I see is black.

*Bang bang bang*

"Huh huh, I'm awake, where am I" I look around, and I'm in my parents room, all my memories flooding back.

* Bang bang bang*

It's coming from downstairs. I stand up, waiting to regain my conscience, and slowly start to make my way down the spiral staircase.

*Bang bang bang*

I grab the closet thing to me as a weapon, a lamp.

*Bang bang bang*

I turn on the lights, and then let my guard down when I see what the noise is.

"Ivy, let us in, it's freezing out here!"

Dropping the lamp on the ground, i rush over to unlock the door. I cringe and look behind, seeing that it had smashed into thousand of pieces, mums going to be so angry when she finds out.

"Come on Ivy, forget about the stupid lamp, we have real problems here!"

I open the door and see both Emma and Casey standing outside in their pyjamas, shivering with annoyed looks on their faces"

"Thank you Ivy" is all Emma could say, but in a very stubborn, cold, not so thankful way.

I motion for them to come in and I close the door behind them, making sure no one was following.

A very serious vibe filled the hall.

" Did the same thing happen to you guys too?"

Knowing what she meant, me and Casey look at each other with concerned face and nod.

" when did yous see the flash, I saw mine about 5:34"

Not really knowing what conclusion Emma was trying to find, I remember checking my phone also said 5:34.

"Same, but what are you trying to say?"

"If our parents all vanished, ugh, left", realising how ridiculous 'vanished' sounds, Emma corrected herself, but was still not very certain. "Well if it all happened at the same time, that must mean that there are more then one of these 'gangs' going around."

Casey finally finds her voice and says "Emma, these things are not gangs, my parents have a fool proof system up, that no gang can get through, and even if they somehow did, there is no way they would have had time to clean up the mess they made doing so before I got to their room."

" So, what we are saying is that there are aliens abduction random people, but for no reason. I know we can't really explain thing, but come on guys, this isn't a movie."

Emma and Casey look at each other then me, both understanding how crazy this all sounds.

"How about we call them, 'things', that makes it sound less crazy, right?"

No one says anything, but instead just share a moment of awkwardness and silence for a solid 3 minutes.

" Ivy, your house is the most secure, I know those... 'things' could still get in, but it would make me feel better if I could stay here, please"

"Well if Casey is staying here, then i am too"

They both stare at me, pleading expressions painted on.

"I'll just ask my mum and then maybe"

This is the first time we have laughed all night.

"Oh yeah, well I guess I'm the boss now and I say, why the hell not."

Emma, always being the serious one, goes from laughing to adult very quickly. "All jokes aside, it can't be a coincidence that all our parents were taken at the same time, same night"

"Well we'll talk about that tomorrow, I'm too tied to think right now"

Just talking about sleep makes Casey yawn.

" yeah sure, we can sleep in the guest room tonight"

And even though we were all very tired, I don't think any of us got any sleep last night.
