"So, why did you want to kill Megan?" Haley asked. "It had to be more than her graduating."
"Well..." Meg started.
Megan McWay and Meg Wallace sat on the band bus with their friend, Safra Tenner. They were headed to a competition in Huntsville. They were talking about where they planned to live after high school.
"I want to be an actress. I'm moving to L.A. as soon as I graduate." Meg was saying.
"Hey, I want to move to L.A., too," Safra said. "There's no reason to stay in Alabama. No one needs an architect around here."
"We can get an apartment together."
"That sounds good."
"Are you sure?" Megan asked. "You'd have to put up with Meg every day."
"It's you she can't stand right now, Megan." Meg joked.
"I literally changed my lock screen," Megan held up her phone to show a picture of her and her new boyfriend, Thomas Jackson.
"It was the three of us." Safra said.
"Well, I'm still on there." Megan said.
"Anyway, Megan, are you planning on leaving Alabama?" Meg asked.
"Yeah. I want to work for the FBI or be some kind of law enforcement. I was thinking about moving to a big city so I would get more murder cases."
"You're planning on moving to a city for murder cases?" Safra asked.
"You have your thing, I have mine," Megan said. "Oh! Did you know that kitty litter masks the smell of a dead body?"
"Megan?" Safra asked.
"Hmm?"
"Why would we know that?"
"I have a better question," Meg interrupted. "Why do you know that?"
"Because I do."
"So, what I'm hearing is that you want to move to L.A. and live with your two best friends!" Meg said.
"Yeah!" Megan said.
"What about Thomas?" Safra asked.
"Can undercover agents even have a partner?" Meg asked.
"Yeah, you just can't tell them about your mission." Megan said. "I don't know what we would do with Thomas. He could have an apartment across the hall, I guess." She paused before saying, "Meg, stop thinking."
"I wasn't." Meg insisted.
"She was." Safra whispered to Megan, just loud enough for Meg to hear."
"I know," Megan whispered the same way. "That's why I said something."
When they got to the competition, they performed and then went to change out of their uniforms. All three girls wore their band shirts. Safra and Meg had on shorts, but Megan wore leggings. She also had a sweatshirt to put on later. Her friends had learned a long time ago not to ask her if she was cold because she probably was. They all left their band shoes and socks on and didn't bother to try to brush all the hair spray out of their hair, which was plastered to their heads to fit under their hats.
"I'm going to go get food. Who wants to come with me?" Safra asked.
"I do!" Meg and Megan said at the same time.
As the girls walked, Meg, who noticed people, saw that there were several people wearing all black and acting suspiciously. Safra, who noticed patterns, saw that the people were all standing the same distance away from each other, forming some kind of shape. Megan, who noticed weapons, saw that each one of them had at least one knife strapped to their bodies.
