The first of November. It’s usually my favourite day of the year but this year I was doing nothing but moping around the house, silently walking around, looking for something to do beside what I was doing.
“Yo! Andy! You got some friends here!” I heard someone yell at me from downstairs.
I sighed, I thought I’d told them to not come over. I thought I’d made that perfectly clear. I don’t want company I had told them. Realizing that I wasn’t going to be getting rid of them that easily I started to walk downstairs but stopped when I noticed that it wasn’t my ‘friends’ that had arrived. It was Falisha. She was sitting with Aron and flirting with him.
“What are you doing here?” I asked her.
Any of the guys that were standing around immediately looked up at the sound of my voice. I couldn’t blame them though. It was a rarity these days, I barely spoke to anyone, Jordan, Jorel, my teachers, anyone.
“I came to see you silly. It’s your birthday isn’t it?” She giggled, pushing her chest out and making sure Aron was watching her.
“No, you didn’t come to see me Falisha… You came here to see Aron mainly. You can leave now. I’ll see you on Monday.”
“Sorry Andy. She’s staying here. We’re going out tonight.” Aron replied, smirking at me.
If anybody else noticed they didn’t react but I felt a flash of pain cross my face. It felt like he had burned me. I was already numb from the lashing I took from before but each and every time he talked about a girl he liked or I saw him with a girl, it was like he was putting out a cigarette on my heart.
“Whatever. I’m going up to my room. What do you guys want for dinner?” I asked them.
“I thought we were going out.” Johnny said as he came to stand next to me, wrapping his arm around my shoulders and giving me a slight squeeze.
I shrugged out of his grip and shook my head. The original plan had been to go out on my birthday like we did every year but today I didn’t feel like celebrating at all.
“I’ll make tacos.” I confirmed without actually taking in any suggestions. “I’m going to the grocery store. Anybody need anything?”
“I’ll come with you!” Jordan called out, running into the living room and grabbing his jacket.
I rolled my eyes and did my best to give him a smile but it never came. I quickly picked up my car keys before anyone else could invite themselves to tag along and left with Jordan in my little green Ford Fiesta.
“So, are you going to talk to me now?” Jordan asked, turning to me.
“Maybe, that is if you’re not sick of hearing me whine about how much I miss Aron yet.” I smirked as I pulled out of our road and onto the slip road.
Jordan was the only person that I was still talking to, albeit only when we were alone but still, our little chats were what was keeping me sane.
“Well, I miss hearing you blabbering on twety-four/seven about anything and everything but you want to talk about Aron? Then we can talk about Aron. Here, let me start. When are you going to tell him how you feel?”
I groaned and rolled my eyes before answering him.
“Never. We’ve already discussed this. He takes far too much pleasure in showing off how many girls he can get in front of me. If he knew that I love him then it would only give him more fuel for his already burning fire of triumph.”
“Burning fire of triumph… Andy that didn’t even make any sense!” Jordan yelled, flailing his arms around uselessly.
“I don’t care. Anyway, we’re here now so you can shut up and help me get everything I need.”
I parked the car smoothly, for once, and then grabbed a shopping cart while Jordan grabbed my bag and his jacket out of the car.
“Thanks Scene. Now, first job for you… go find the soda and pick up four bottles of regular coke and four bottles of diet coke. Do you understand?”
“Four of each. Got it. Be back soon.”
He walked off to go find the soda and I was left to my own thoughts, just how I liked it.
