The news that Hogwarts was hosting the Yule Ball had spread excitement around the school. Girls were constantly gossiping about what their dresses would look like, how they'd style their hair, have their make up and what shoes they were going to wear while the guys fretted about who they were going to ask as their dates.
I myself was excited about getting glammed up for a Christmas party and dancing myself dizzy with my friends. It didn't help that Hogwarts had visitors from two other Wizarding Schools staying at the castle for the Triwizard Tournament. From France we had the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and from Sweden, Durmstrang.
The Ball was the talk of the whole school. As the date of the ball grew closer I began to worry as I hadn't got myself a date yet. I had my dress which was a fushia pink floor length, strappy gown with diamontes on the bodice of it. My shoes were silver sparkly heels and all my jewellery was silver. It never crossed my mind to ask a guy to the ball, for fear of being let down. Some Gryffindor I am eh?

That all changed as I sat in the Gryffindor common room one afternoon reading a muggle magazine my Mum sent me. I pretty much grew up as a muggle since my Mum is a muggle and my Dad is a wizard though a muggle-born. My parents kept magic a secret from me until my Hogwarts letter arrived for fear of disappointing me if I didn't get my letter.
I flicked through the pages, looking at the various posters of good looking boyband members when the portrait hole opened and the common room was filled with loud laugher. I shot a glance to the door to see Fred and George Weasley enter the room, laughing about something.
Fred and George were the year above me and very handsome. I got back to reading my magazine, reading some make up tips to get inspiration for the ball. I was rudely interruped by someone jumping on the sofa beside me.
“Hello there Laura.” George chirped.
“Hello there George.” I said back.
“What ya reading?” He asked looking at my magazine.
“Smash Hits. It's a muggle magazine my parents send me every month.” I replied.
“The pictures don't move?” George questioned.
“Nope they don't.” I answered.
“Odd.” George said. “Anyway.....have you got a date for the ball yet?”
“Nope not yet. Why?” I asked, wondering why George was asking me this.
It wasn't as though we were best friends or anything. Although I was good friends with Katie Bell as she was in my class and my dorm buddy. Katie played quidditch with the twins.
“Would you like to go to the ball with me?” George asked me.
“I thought you had a date already?” I asked. “Didn't you ask Katie?”
“Nope. She's going with someone else.” George replied.
I thought for a few short seconds. I did like George, actually I did have a bit of a crush on him and he was far nicer and kinder than Fred was.
“Yes I will go to the ball with you.” I finally replied.
“Brilliant. I promise you, you won't regret it.” George grinned, kissing my hand then left to join his friends.
Two third year students rushed over to me.
“Oh my goodness, George Weasley just asked you to the ball. I am so jealous.” The petite blonde one gushed.
