The world is gone. What is left is hell. We, the last survivors of the world, are trying as hard as we can to live. But the plains are in chaos. Here is our story.
I am Jax. I had a normal life once. I had a beautiful girlfriend, and a loving family. I had a nice home. Then hell literally came to earth. It was midday. Me and Caley, my girlfriend, were having some fun after a nice lunch. We were just reaching the climax, when a huge crash sounded in the distance. I jerked up, startled, and heard a woman shrieking. I leaped off the bed, hastily put some pants on, and ran to the closet. I grabbed the two huge cases off the top shelf, and threw them on the floor. I wrenched open the locks, and began removing the guns and shells. The first was a 12-gauge pump shotgun. The other was a .30-.30 semi-automatic rifle. I kept them in case of emergency, and this seemed like a pretty big emergency. As I ran towards the door of the bedroom, Caley cried, "What the fuck was that?"
"I don't know" I replied, "But I'm about to find out."
"Wait! Please don't go. I don't want to be alone if something happens"
"Then come with me. I taught you how to shoot, and you can carry the shotgun. I put in the buckshot."
"Fine. But promise me that if something terrible happens, we can leave immediately."
"I promise."
She got up, and grabbed her bra off the nightstand.
"Don't forget your clothes babe."
"Shit, I almost forgot."
When she had gotten dressed, I tossed her the loaded gun. She almost didn't catch it. When she got her grip, she primed it.
"Ready to go?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"Then let's go."
As we walked out the door, I realized something. The woman had stopped screaming. And there was absolutely no noise in the street. I started towards the place I thought I heard the sound come from. Then I stopped cold. There was a woman limping towards us.
"Hello?" I called.
The woman's head shot up, and I took a startled step back. Her eyes were blood red.
"Get out of this place. You will not survive here. Leave now," the woman croaked. But her mouth didn't move. I heard it all in my head. I turned, and judging by Caley's face, she had too. Then she screamed, "Jax, LOOK OUT!!"
