"Don't talk to any boys!"
My dad, Aaron Burr yelled as I was getting onto the bus for my first day of kindergarten. My name is Theodosia, Theodosia Burr. You're probably wondering, how does this girl just going into kindergarten have such good grammar? Well, my parents -my dad- expects a lot out of me. I started walking at 6 months and started to talk at the early age of 8 months. I know how to read books with words such as sesquipedalian (meaning large word).
I stepped onto the bus to see a girl looking down. "Can I sit next to you?" I asked. She looked up, nodded, and went to being quiet again. "My name's Theodosia, but I don't like being called that so call me Theo. What's yours?" she seemed sad. "Susan.," she said softly. We sat there in silence for the rest of the ride. A few more kids got on, they were loud.
We arrive at a small building, it has flowers on the outside. We all hop off the bus, a woman wearing a yellow sundress puts us into a line and we follow her inside. She leads us to a room, I step inside to see a bunch of toys, three tables with placemats on them, and a whiteboard with little square rugs in front of it. "Everyone pick a seat in front of the whiteboard on a square!" the woman said. Everyone ran to the rugs. "Okay! My name is Ms. Schuyler, but if you want to you can call me Ms. Peggy," she announced enthusiastically. "We are gonna play a name game, I'll point to you, and you're going to say your name and something you like to do." She pointed to a girl. "My names Claire, and I like to sing!" Wow, she's excited about this. She pointed to a boy. "...m-my names P-Philip, I-I like to d-draw..." Poor kid, he's so nervous. Ms. Peggy pointed to a few more kids and then it was my turn. "My name's Theo, I um I guess I like to read?" Some people started laughing and booing. "Hey! Knock it off!" Thanks, Ms. Peggy.
We finished the game. "Everybody grab a pencil and come get into a line!" I grabbed my favorite pencil and got into the line. We were taken outside and sat down on the grass. Ms. Peggy handed out the paper. "Okay, we are gonna draw nature today. You can draw grass, trees, and animals. The sky's the limit!" I'll draw the sun! "Can we draw turtles?!" a boy with curly hair said. "Of course!"
We finished drawing, mine wasn't that bad. "Okay, everybody! Grab your things and follow me into the building." We were almost inside when "You dropped your pencil.." Somebody said behind me. "Wha- Oh! Thank you!" I said a little startled. "Philip right?" The boy nodded.
I hop onto the bus and pull out my diary. 'Philip and I sat with each other at lunch. We talked about everything, animals, school, nature, and more. I found out that he has a sister named Angie, she is 5 years old. He's pretty funny. I think we are gonna be bestfriends!'
"How was your day sweets?" my father asked. "Great! I made a friend his-her- name is Philip?" Let's hope they didn't hear that. "Isn't Philip a boy's name?" My father said. He's onto me! "It's 2009 dear, people name their kids lots of things." Thanks Mom. I finished my dinner and got ready for bed.
"Night Mommy! Night Daddy!" They shut the light off and I fell asleep.
