10:34 p.m.
That’s the time right now as I’m lying on my bed, looking at the clock on the table beside me. I am absolutely terrified, a lot of strange things have been happening around the house lately ranging from strange noises in the middle of the night, things disappearing for a few days then showing up again and sometimes it feels like someone or something is watching me during both day and night.
I look around my dark room, too terrified to close my eyes and fall asleep. The night before had been the worst of them all, loud noises were coming from downstairs and all of a sudden, I heard footsteps walking up the stairs. I cowered in fear, hiding under my blanket trying desperately to block out the sound. I had heard my door open slowly and creaking in the process. I lifted my head out of my blanket only to see my door wide open and nobody there, the hallway light was on but I didn’t dare get up, I only stared into the brightness of the hallway then turned over and tried to fall asleep, trying to forget what happened and hoping that nothing else would occur.
It was frightening and I didn’t know what to do. My roommate, Claire, slept soundly in the room next door, never hearing the loud noises or scary sounds. Sometimes I wonder if it’s just me, if I’m just imagining this whole scenario and there really isn’t anything scary happening.
As I was thinking about it, a huge bang was heard from downstairs, as if someone was banging two pots together loudly. I tremble in fear and I can feel myself shaking. I don’t want a repeat of last night. I am hiding in my blanket, once again, when I hear footsteps on the stairs. The door starts to creak open again slowly, as if the thing coming in is trying to stay quiet. The door stops moving and it doesn’t take long for me to feel my blanket move off of me like someone is pulling it off and I watch as it falls to the floor with a quiet thud, the room goes quiet until I let out a scream because I can feel something cold slide against my cheek, as if something is touching me. My roommate’s door opens and she runs into my room.
“What’s wrong?” She asks frantically, taking in my appearance. Tears are running down my cheeks and I’m curled up into a ball, blanket still left on the floor. My body is shaking and I can’t seem to get any words out.
“Ghost” I whisper after a whole five minutes of silence. Claire looks at me confused.
“A what?” She asks.
“A ghost” I say a bit louder this time. I sit up in my bed.
“We have a ghost in here?” She asks another question. I nod my head and she laughs. “I doubt that, Riley, you were probably just dreaming.”
“I wasn’t dreaming, Claire, I was awake.” I tell her but she doesn’t seem to understand me.
“Sometimes, dreams feel real. You need to go back to sleep, we both have school in the morning.” Claire picks up the blanket off the floor and puts it on my bed before leaving the room, closing the door behind her. I can see the hallway light turn off then another click of Claire’s bedroom door closing.
I sigh to myself, shaking my head and wondering why Claire won’t believe her. I lie down; pulling the blanket over her body and head then closes her eyes, once again hoping nothing else will occur for the rest of the night. I wish nothing else would happen at all but I don’t know if it will come true.
Nothing else happens for two days and I a, happy about that. I enjoy the sleep I get and I think that nothing else will happen. That is until the third night rolls around.
The same thing happens as the previous nights, the loud banging, the footsteps, my door opening and my blanket falling on the floor. This time is a little different, I feel something lie down next to me and then I can’t move. It feels like something is suffocating me and holding me down. I try to get up, I kick, punch and move around wildly but nothing works and it feels like I’m sinking into the bed. I can’t breathe or move. I try to scream but nothing comes out and I cry silently, praying that Claire would please wake up.
I feel something cold slide against my throat and everything goes black.

The next morning, Claire wakes up unaware of what happened last night. She gets up and immediately heads to my room but what she sees is completely unexpected. I lie there dead.
