Alright, ladies and gents, here is the interview no one asked for!! Haha, I'm sorry I've been away for so long, but I have been struggling greatly with things none of you should be burdened with. So, without further ado, I'm diving right back in with this interview!

Today, we're going to ask Lachlan some questions, and I'm going to give you a little drawing I did of him. I am not an artist, but I thought it would be fun to do. It's how I picture him in my head, but don't worry if it doesn't match up with your picture of him. He's uniquely shapeshifty. Or, really, just kinda shifty in general. XD

Can you just get to the part where people ask me questions?

So rude. Very well. First, you should probably introduce yourself. Not because they don't know who you are, but because it is polite.

May Selene smile upon you, my adoring audience. My name is Lachlan Triquetra Adamas, Jewel of Triton Bastian and hero of this particular book.

Ha. Not likely! Don't you think Savia deserves that title?

Who?

Moving on. If you had to pick one, what would be your motto?

I am rather fond of the human cliche: "Always be prepared." But I think, if I were to pick my own motto in my own words, it would be closer to this: "Trust yourself, because your instincts will guide you along the path you're meant to be on."

Did you have any role models?

Queen Melodia. She was a sharp lady, and a lot of people didn't like how obvious she was about her ambition, but I loved her. Even with all the power she wanted, she never lost sight of what was most important to her. If anyone could have had everything, it was her. I miss her, and how kind she was to me.

When did you have your first kiss, and who with?

Oooh, gettin' spicy with the questions! Well, I'll tell you that my first crush was different from my first kiss, but not for lack of trying. I definitely kissed Salix, the saucy little minx, when we were only forty three. He was a handsome sort, destined for life as a sexy warrior, but there was an intelligence in him that I found incredibly attractive. Sadly, he went on to fall in love with Larin, and they're expecting their first hatchling sometime soon. I wish him all the best, though.

Do you have a criminal record?

Criminal records are for those who get caught. So, no.

Are you optimistic or pessimistic?

I would call myself a realist, so probably more on the pessimistic side? I do have a strong belief in fate, though, so I don't think it's all doom and gloom. I just think that, sometimes, fortune favors those who take precautions.

What is your favorite color?

My favorite color is orange, like the sunset. One time, I swam to the surface and got to watch the sun sink below the horizon. I was supposed to be there to see the moonrise, but I found myself wishing the sunset would last just a little longer. Is that strange? Hardly anything under the waves is really orange, so it makes me really happy when I find something like that. I'd probably marry a merperson if they had an orange tail.

Do you like yourself?

What's not to like? I am majestic. If there's one thing being around Zareb and Bast has taught me, it's to love myself. I'm not perfect, but I can take the world on when I believe in myself.

Reader question: What's your favorite place in Nereus?

The glass coral grove. It's not actually made of glass, but merfolk often leave spent vitae gems in the grove as a final goodbye to their loved ones. The whole place shines like a million dreams and tears, and it really stirs the heart. My Nana and Papa are there, resting on the same little nook together, and they'll be there forever. It brings peace to my heart.

Reader question: Do you have any abilities/characteristics of a selkie? I know you can't turn human, but can you do anything else?

I get this one a lot, but the short answer is no. The biggest characteristics of the Selkies are their ability to shed their tails, and the slightly more seal-like tails. Unfortunately for me, the Naiad blood is dominant so my fins are less round and I cannot shed my tail. Honestly, I wish I could. My cousins often talk about dancing on the shores under moonlight, and I really wish I could dance with them.

Reader question: Do you have any hobbies? What do you do when you're bored?

I am often bored, haha. I really think I was meant for more than being a merchant, but I had a hard time coming to terms with that. So, for the longest time, I really devoted myself to the art of trade. It just didn't feel like home for me, though. Singing has always been my passion, and I've worked hard to learn as many songs as I can. Does that count as a hobby? If not, then my only other past time is meddling in other people's affairs. There's nothing more interesting than studying merfolk and trying to figure out their motivations. Bast would call me a busybody if I admitted that, so keep it to yourself for me, please.

Reader question: What are your favorite things about your 2 best friends?

Ah, where do I even start with this? I love my friends dearly, and I think I would be hard-pressed to name my favorite things, but I think I can pin down what makes me trust them so much.

Firstly, they're both incredibly loyal, and there's something to be said for having someone in your life that you know will be with you always. I'm incredibly blessed to have two of them at my side.

Zareb is as steady as the sun, and even when he doesn't think something you're doing is good, he'll always be there if you ask him. I take great care to only come to him when I have exhausted all my other options, because I value him and his dedication. Also, he's hilarious. No one expects the stoic warrior to have a sense of humor, but he loves jokes and he likes making other people happy with them.

Bastian is a whole other fish. I love him like a brother, just like Zareb, and I think he's got a lot of pressure on him to be perfect just because his dad happened to be the last Triton. But the thing I love most about Bastian is that, despite all the awful things going on in his life, he's probably the most earnest and kind merperson I've ever met. There's an innocence around him that can't be faked. Do you know how rare that is? Most merpeople will at least consider what you can do for them, at least in the beginning, but not him. Bast is never like that. He's amazing, and I want him to just keep being him. I hope the world will let him live happily, when all this craziness is over and done.

Lastly, anything you want to say to the folks who actually made it to the end of this interview?

Thank you so much for loving me, and/or the story, and supporting all of us. I know it's been a weird, insane journey for you (because dear goddess has it been weird for us), but I want you to know that I most definitely am going to have an amazing story to tell by the end of it.

I'm even going to fall in lov—

And that's all, folks! No spoilers, please, my wayward son. Thanks so much for reading, and we'll see you soon. <3
