Is a life of fear worth living? Would you hide in every shadow, and cower behind every closed door, just to see your family again? Would you pay the full price of freedom? How far would you go for someone that you love?

In Corotia the people face this decision every day. The answer is always fear and fear seems to always be the answer. Venturing off into the unknown has always scared the people of Corotia. There is to be a certain familiarity in the misery and suffering. We must remember that all that glitters is not gold and all that lives is not alive.

The people that "take care" of Corotia are called The Guardians. They are the slaves of our ruler, the one and only Father. Father lives in the very center of The Institution, covered in wealth and luxury. How did this come to be, you may wonder. Well, as infants our parentals would tell us stories to help us fall asleep. These stories were about the people that came many decades before us. Our ancestors. It is said that our ancestors were kind, whole-hearted souls, that cared for the Earth and all of those around them. One day, a plague spread all over Corotia, rapidly killing every citizen of Corotia. A boy named Asmedeus, however, was immune to this plague. The people wanted to sacrifice him and replicate his blood as a cure. Asmedeus was frightened and went into hiding with his two best friends, a boy and a girl. Once the whole civilization had passed, Asmedeus used his friends as lab experiments, mixing their genetics and creating a new people of Corotia. To keep these people in line, Asmedeus created a system. Each newborn child would live their first two years with their parents. On New Year's Day, after the child's second birthday, The Guardians would visit each house and retrieve the child, and bring them to The Institution. From there on is a mystery. No one knows what happens at the Institution, no one remembers.

There are only two things that no one has forgotten about The Institution; if the child survives they returned to their assumed family at the age of 15, and everyone, as in everyone, must do as Father says.

This life is a game with only one winner. With only one survivor.  Our ancestors still watch over us today.  They have descended from the sky. And they are no longer kind.
