While Ross was pulling into his driveway, Katherine couldn't help but marvel at his house, "It's beautiful, I've never seen anything like this," she said as she got out of Ross' car and walked toward the house.
"It's an antique house, it was built somewhere in the early 1900s", Ross said as he trailed after Katherine.
"Interesting, I bet this house cost a fortune", she said as she touched the wood carvings on Ross' door.
"That's what most think, but when the house was put up for sale, nobody wanted to buy it", Ross said as he brought out his keys and opened the door.
"Oh, why?", Katherine asked as she stepped into the beautifully furnished home.
"Ten years ago, eighteen murdered bodies were found in this house, from that day on, the value of the house has gone down considerably".
"That's horrible", Katherine said with a grimace on her face, "who would do such a thing?"
"It is believed that a man named Ross Chromlin killed all those people, but before the authorities could prove was the actual killer, he had already escaped," Ross said as he walked toward the living room couch, and motioned Katherine to take a seat. There was something strange in the way Ross phrased that entire sentence. He sounded almost...satisfied. There was something strange going on, but Katherine pushed aside her suspicions and realized that it was getting late.
"Will you show me to where I’m sleeping?" Katherine asked as she got up and faced Ross. He wasn't really doing anything, he just stood there with an indecipherable emotion on his face. Katherine thought that was a little strange, but she was far too tired to pursue the thought any further.
"Sure, follow me." Ross said as he turned away from Katherine and began to walk in the general direction of the stairs. Katherine looked around the house as she followed him, the house didn't look like most houses she had been to...there were no pictures, or hangings anywhere, which gave the house a very eerie atmosphere. The place felt almost haunted. It wasn’t really the place one would expect someone to live in.
"Sleep well", Ross said as he held the bedroom door open and motioned for Katherine to enter.
"Thanks, you too," Katherine said as she looked around the room. The place looked like most rooms she had seen. That was a relief from the startling appearance of down stairs. The room had a bed in the middle, a dressing table to its side, and a closet directly away from the bed. The room seemed as normal as any other room, but further examination made her suspect that maybe the room wasn’t too different from the rest of the house. It was clean, a little too clean. It was almost as if every part of the room had recently been cleaned.
“Wow Josh, this place looks really clean. Were you expecting someone today?” Katherine asked Ross while she approached the bed and began pulling the covers off, “Or do you usually keep every piece of your house this clean?” Her tone was jovial and playful despite her strong need to sleep. Ross looked a little amused by her question, but then shrugged her curiosity away by assuring her that it was his custom to clean the house as regularly as possible. It was quite late, so Katherine diminished any questions or comments that would usually pop into her mind, crawled into bed, and fell asleep.
