I stare at her cold, dead body, the steely glint of the otherwise crimson colored knife, catching my eye while being rested in her shoulder. The 17th stab, I counted. As I pull the knife from her shoulder I say to her corpse, "Tsk tsk tsk, Karma will always get you, Jana Lee." As soon as I leave the note, with my signature, Karma, I leave, my knife still crimson. Everyone knows me. Everybody who is smart enough will do what they need to in order to avoid me. The police have never found me. I am your "eye for an eye". I can be your worst nightmare. I can be your greatest victory. My name is Karma Kratt. And I know things. As soon as they happen, and I either reward or collect "debt" from you. Jana Lee killed her husband. I killed Jana Lee. Simple trade, honestly. As soon as I get home, I call out "Mother!" She walks down the hallway saying, with worry, "Karma, my darling? Who's debt or reward was it?" I respond simply and plainly "Jana Lee. She murdered her husband and I murdered her. Any news?" "Oh darling, you are going to go to school!" My jaw drops. She can't be serious! Me, Karma Kratt, going to a school? Is she crazy? "I know it will be an adjustment, Kar," she says." Why don't you just eat?" She asks as she points to the table to signal me to eat. As I sit down I can't help but notice something wrong. "Mother, what meat is this?" I ask. "Pork, why?" She responds. "Mother! You killed Panika?" I ask, almost yelling. "Yes honey, I'm sorry, but she was an old pig." She stutters. "Mother. Who am I?" I ask, looking forward. "Karma..." "And what is my job?" "To make sure people are both rewarded and punished." She responds. "You are so "icky you gave me life" I say, throwing the dish away. "Learn your lesson, Mother." I say, my hands cold. My mother does nothing, she only walks to the sink to clean the dishes and knives. I refuse to eat dinner and instead collect my knives from the drying rack and go to my room. On my board, I write the date, 4/13/2025 then the name, Jana Lee, and the punishment, Murder, reason, Murder. I then write out my Mothers. As I put down the pen I can't help but think of the days before I was Karma. When I was just a little girl with a name. Then my name became fear. And I couldn't change that. So I gave in to my powers and became the Karma. Eye for an eye is what keeps humans from being stupid. My mother, however, I go easy on her. By now I should have killed her for her crimes. She is perfectly alive and anyone who thinks otherwise will always end up agreeing with me. Taking my thoughts off the past, I go to my bed and quickly fall asleep.

When I woke up, all I saw as white. I realized it was only because my mother had opened the blackout curtains over my windows. When my eyes adjusted to the light, I realized it was the day before I had to start school. I knew three things already: I would have no friends, I would probably fail every class, and, lastly, I would hate it. I don't want to go to school. Not when I act how I do. If there was any truth to the articles I read, school is full of people who I would end up punishing. I flopped onto the other side of my bed, then got up. A sudden burn from my inside indicated I had work to do. The burning let me know it was time for a Punishment. The cooling effect is much rarer, happening only when someone deserves to be Rewarded. I grab my black leather bag, resting near the velvet version. The leather one had my items for Punishing, the velvet for Rewarding. I set the bag down near my wardrobe door and found an easy outfit- a full black outfit containing leggings, a crop top, and a leather jacket- and change into it quickly. On my way out the door, I hear my mother say "Karma? Are you home still?" "Yes, Mother!" I yell down the hall. She pokes her head around the corner to look at me. "Don't get home too late.." she says with a tone of sadness. I put a bandana covering just above my nose to my chest, and leave. Breathing in the fresh air, I look around. Noticing the burning feeling every time I look at Mr.Mason's house, I immediately go that way. I don't bother knocking and slip through the door quietly. I walk through the house and finally see Mr.Mason, with some assortment of leaves in his hand, giving it to someone else, while the person hands him money. Realizing what is happening, I call the police, then do my part. I manage to dive behind the couch, right behind them, as they sit down. I take a piece of cloth and hold it to their mouths until they pass out, being careful not to kill them. When the police arrive, I told them what I saw and what I did. They told me they would handle it, and to go home. When I get home, my mother is watching TV and texting her friend. Hearing me, she says, "That was fast, only 30 minutes? What happened?" "Mr.Mason, drug dealing, he's going to jail, as well as the buyer" I respond. Mother and Mr.Mason were very good friends. I see the look on my moms face drop, as she says, under her breath, "Well I'm glad I was on a diet when he tried to give me cookies..." I laugh, and my mom turns bright red. "Hey, mom, why don't I cook today? I'll make lunch and dinner, but it's much too late for breakfast." I offer. "That would be lovely. And if you are hungry for breakfast, go ahead and find something in the fridge." she gestures toward the kitchens door, smiling. It's been a while since she smiled. Most of the time, she is scared. Just looking at her smiling face, I can't handle it. I lie, and say, "Mother, there is a Reward I have to give." I go upstairs, put down the leather bag, and change into something less... scary, I guess. I put on a sweater dress, leggings, and a touch of make-up. Rewarding always makes me excited. So I tried to look the part. Grabbing the velvet bag, I walk down the stairs and out the door without a word. Once I am near the old oak tree I use to get away and just think, I do just that, think. All of a sudden, I am hit with a cooling sensation. I walk around, waiting for it to get stronger, and follow it. Madame Mathia, the owner of the orphanage, has just saved a life. I walk up to her and hand her a bottle from my bag. "Your own life can be saved with this. Thank you for being amazing." I tell her, before leaving. I decided to have been at the tree long enough, and I go home. When my mother sees me, she says nothing, but smiles. I go to my room and write Madame Mathia's Reward, the date, and the reason. I feel very tired, and decide to take a nap.

I woke up, very late at night. Looking at my alarm clock, I see that is it 11 o'clock at night. Groaning, I get up. Knowing my mother is asleep, I try to be quiet, taking some food from the fridge and microwaving it. Out of nowhere, I hear something. Something near my door. Wood breaking. Footsteps. I run into my room, grab my bags, run to my mothers' room, lock the door and grab a gun from the leather bag. I see the doorknob moving, and then being ripped out. The person walks in. "Dad?!"
