"Here, take these."
The nurse handed me more pills.
"These are like the 5th I've taken since I woke up, why do I have to take so many?" I asked.
"It'll make you feel better, now, just take them."
So I took them, they were awful. Just like the rest.
I still don't understand what's going on. The nurse said that I was in a terrible accident and have been asleep for a long time, but I don't remember. She also told me that my parents were going to come and see me in a bit but honestly, I don't remember them either. I don't remember anyone. I kept asking the nurse about my family and she told me It was just my parents and I.
I keep trying to remember, but I can't.
I'm sleepy now, I think I'll go to sleep.

When I woke up two strangers where sitting in chairs next to me, asleep. They're probably my parents. I reached over for a glass of water but accidentally dropped a clipboard off the table next to me and it woke them up. The woman was the first to open her eyes, she quickly stood up and came by my side. "Oh my gosh Amber, look at you!" Then she hugged me. I felt awkward but I didn't pull away, I knew that she was my mom.
"Oh I'm sorry, I know you probably don't remember me, but I 'm-" she began, I cut her off,
"My mom, I know."
"You remembered?!" She asked cheerful.
"No, my nurse told me you were coming."
"Oh, okay. I'm sorry I just thought... well never mind, all that's important now is that you're awake! David, honey, wake up!" she said shaking on his shoulder. He woke up with a jolt.
"What? What's going on?" he asked standing up.
"Amber's awake!" My mom replied.
He ran over to the side of my bed. He ran his hand down the side of my face and then hugged me.
"David, she doesn't remember us, you're just freaking her out!"
"Oh right, I'm sorry." he stopped hugging me.
My mom went and got the nurse. When the nurse came in she asked me if I felt comfortable around them and I said sure. So she said that they could talk to me but try not to make me feel overwhelmed. The nurse left and my mom and dad both sat on my bed looking at me. I felt awkward and I wasn't sure what to say. Luckily my mom chimed in,
"So, do you remember anything at all? Or did the nurse tell you anything about you?"
"Well no actually, all the nurse told me was that my name is Amber and I've been in a comma for about a year because of some sort of horrible accident."
"Is there anything else you'd like to know?" my dad asked. Well honestly, I want to know what happened to me and what is going on because I still have no clue!
"Yes." I relied. "I want to know what happened to me. Don't worry about overwhelming me, I want to know."
My parents looked at each other and then my dad put his hand on my leg and said, "Well it happened last winter, you and your really good friend were driving and the roads were really icy. Your friend was driving when you went to stop at a red light, but slid and your car got hit by a truck. You both were rushed to the hospital and your friend was fine, just a few broken bones but you had head trauma and went into a comma."
I was speechless. I didn't say anything to him, I just sat there staring at both of them. What was I suppose to say anyway?
"I think that's enough for one day.." my mom began. "Like the nurse said, we can't overwhelm her."
"No!" I said sitting up straight. "I want to know. I want to try and remember, please."
They both sat back down on the bed.
"Like what?" my dad asked.
"I'm not sure, um, maybe like what's happened in the last year or like about my friends. Or maybe like who I was and what I did." I said impatient.
"Oh um well, we could tell you about your friends." my mom said.
"Alright."
"Well, you had quite a few but you only had one or two good friends and then you had one best friend. I know you won't remember these names but Nichole and Riley always come and stop by to see how you are doing. They come at least once a month. But your best friend, who was in the car with you, stops by every other week. Dylan, he wants to come and see you tomorrow. But I'm not sure if that's a good idea-" my mom said.
"It is! I want to see them." I said quickly. I want to know if seeing them will help me remember, and even if it doesn't, I still want to see them.
"I'll have to check with the nurse but..... they'll probably allow it." My dad said.

For the rest of the evening I was just constantly asking questions. I learned that I swim, play soccer, and run track. Also I'm going into my junior year of High School next month, hopefully I'll be able to go.
The nurse came in and told me I need to get some rest if I want to see my friends tomorrow.
