Sorry...

It had been a long day, and I had just finished doing my homework for 3 hours after I had practice for 2 hours before that, which also meant I was really hungry and tired. It was 9pm and there was nothing in the fridge, so I just didn't eat. Instead, I looked at my phone and the tons of missed notifications, some from my father saying he was going to be late, some from Dylan asking how my practice was, and some, the notifications I always ignored, the bad ones. I checked all my social medias, having 29 new Instagram notifications, 129 snapchats, and 255 pin trust saves.  None really stood out so I put my phone down, grabbing my laptop.

As soon as I pulled up Netflix, my phone started ringing with an unfamiliar number. I questioned if it was a telemarketer at first but decided to pick it up.

"Hello?" I questioned, crossing my legs on my blue covered bed. Focusing on logging into my computer.

"Hello? Is this Jr Fredicton?" It was a boy, his voice deep and smooth.

"Uh, no. This is not Jr but he goes to my school." I let out a giggle, I have never heard this guy before but like I said I have been laying low, so I might have been missing a few people.

"Oh jeez...Sorry wrong number."

"Wait, let's talk. I'm bored out of my mind and your some random person who was looking for Jr, who I happened to know." I don't know why I said it, but I did. And there was no taking it back now.

"Sure, why not..." He took a pause, and I heard rustling, meaning he was getting comfortable. "I'm Noen Eubanks."

"I'm Rose Monteray, nice to meet you, random guy who called me, named Noen." I giggle and hear a small laugh on the other end. "So what were you calling Jr for?"

"Little nosey..."

"I mean, I'm curious, that's all." I redden and feel embarrassed for butting in.

"No, I like curious." I can feel his smile even though I cant see him. "I'm moving and I was enrolling into your school, where the principal gave me a folder of my classes, the finals study guides, and my tour guide and apparently 'first friend'. So I decided to call him so I knew who he was starting off." I give out a laugh, knowing Jr would hate to have to tour someone and have someone shadowing in his tall, football playing reputation.

"Sounds a bit misunderstood. Jr hates having responsibilities and people following him, which means you will be wandering around alone." I roll my eyes, knowing Jr and how unworthy he is of having any friends, let alone being a role model for anyone. Dylan dates him too because he was such a jerk on the football team.

"I bet. It wouldn't be the first time I was left for myself in my life." I feel a bit of tension and give him a second to decide if he wanted to talk about it. "My best friend from preschool to freshman year told me to kill myself, after a girl he liked, had strong feelings for me." I close my eyes and let out a shaky breath. "What was that? Let me guess, similar situation?"

"Mhmm, my best friend for 5 years dropped me for a girl who I know is better, who she can get along with better." I feel tears sting my eyes and feel grateful that Noen isn't in front of me and can only hear what I say.

"So, we have a bit in common." I hear a laugh and I smile, laying back on my bed. "Before we become great friends and fall hopelessly in love with each other... I need to ask one question that could make or break this whole thing..." I feel my cheeks redden and pull my blanket over myself.

"Mhmm, and that is?" I giggle, messing with my hair.

"Coke or Pepsi?"

"Coke, but on most days..."

"Please say Root Beer." I raise an eyebrow, shooting up from my bed, my jaw dropping.

"And a slice of pepperoni and onion pizza. The best thing ever!" I put the call on speaker as I lay back in my bed, staring at my ceiling, envisioning the conversation in real life.

"Well, no onions but yes!" I hear him move around again and cough. "Are you like my soulmate or something. Like all the stupid, sappy Romance movies start out?"

"Romance movies are not sappy, or stupid. They're cute!" I defend.

"Mhmm, believe what you want, but love is a joke that no man can pull off." Noen huffs and moves again. "It's friday so I can fight all night about anything. Or we can just talk and learn about each other, seeming that random strangers always do." I laugh and nod.

"I would love to have a long meaningless conversation with a guy who could be a murderer, and stay up all night." I giggle, staring at my phone, creating the new contact 'Noen :)'.

"First off, the conversation will not be meaningless, some of the best dates are just long conversations ya know? Not that I would know..." I huff out a stubborn breath.

"Me neither." I roll my eyes, thinking of Tyler and Josh.

"Shut up you are literally the most exciting person I've ever talked to, and we have only talked for half an hour. Anyway, second, I guarantee you I am not a serial killer or murderer, I dont have the stomach for that. And third, I would love to stay up and talk all night as well." The last sentence came out smooth and comforting, like hot chocolate and a fuzzy blanket.

And talk all night we did. Noen and I talked for 9 hours, and then fell asleep on call, and he woke me up softly with his voice smooth and deep. We talked of meaningless politics, school, life, and love. I knew more about him than he knew about himself, and he knew more about me than I knew about myself. In 9 hours.
