Chapter One: Lorazepam

4th of Augst 3:21am
*THUMP*
John wakes up abruptly and looks around his room, to see nothing. He shrugs off the loud noise that had just awoken him, and goes to the bathroom. Eyes hardly even open, he walks in and turns on the light, only to see three open, empty pill bottles. He picks them up, puzzled, and reads "Lauren Orlando Lorazepam. Take one pill by mouth a day" John squints his eyes in question, "Lauren's sleeping medication?" Out of concern, John goes to Lauren's room and knocks twice on her door. With no answer, he cracks the door open. He turns the light on to see Lauren on the floor, almost lifeless.
"Lauren???? Lauren!! Wake up! MOM, DAD!"
Mer and Dale rush into Lauren's room seeing johnny panicking, Mer runs over to Lauren.
"DALE CALL 911"
John stands back and watches his mother and father try and get his sister to wake up. He hears sirens, and starts to blackout.

Nearly two months since the death of Lauren Orlando, school starts back up. It's weird. Everyone's staring at John and whispering. He's not used to all the attention, it was always lauren who got the spotlight. She was the popular girl in school. Everyone knew her. He could only imagine how many people would mourn her.

Later that first day, everyone goes to their lockers to put away their stuff for lunch. John at his locker, overhears someone whisper to their friend "That's him. That's the guy who's sister died. I heard he was the one who found her."
Mackenzie Ziegler, overhearing the two talk, rolls her eyes and walks over to John. She taps his shoulder, "John?" He jumps at her touch and turns quickly. Mackenzie's eyes widen and she apologizes for scaring him.
"I just kinda wanted to say that I am really sorry about Lauren.... I know this is going to be a weird year for you, but I'm here. Hope you and your family are doing okay."
"Thank you, Mackenzie," he shyly smiles "do you maybe wanna sit with Hayden and I at lunch?"
Mackenzie smiles, and accepts his offer. They grab lunch and sit down and talk.

At the end of the week when school is over, the two of them walk home together, as they should. They talk about a lot different things. Then they get into deep conversation about Lauren's death.
"I just think there's a lot of stuff that doesn't add up" John says.
Kenzie gives him a questioned look.
"W-what do you mean?"
"Lauren was happy. Things were normal at home and school- or at least that's what I thought." There was a pause.
"You're right." She replies.
"Wait.. you agree with me?" John asks her.
"Yeah..... she was once my best friend. i just wanna know what happened"
"Let's figure it out then....."
