rosey has horrible nightmares every now and then. she would always shake and pant as she sat up straight from her slumber. her hand was always safe on her chest, attempting to slow her rapid breathing.
as she sat in the edge, her legs hung off the side of the bed. her hands were resting atop of the thick blanket she slept with, her head hung down as she stared at the silver rings on her fingers. her tears fell slowly and visibly on her skin and blanket.
this night was different; she couldn't sleep again after her nightmare. in the corner of the room, small shadows formed, but they were only jackets hung. the presence of such familiar objects in the room frightened her into staying awake.
rosey couldn't see who was asking her questions, but it was only between two people with whom she shared a room. this voice, however, sounded like her boyfriend's, jeongin. he'd heard her muffled sobs, which she silenced with her sleeves when they became too loud.
her gaze was drawn to the side of the room where he slept, despite the fact that she couldn't see anything. she responded shakily, "yes."
she panicked as she heard him start moving around on his bed, the creaks becoming louder and then the abrupt stop of movement when he stood off his bed.
he approached her and gently placed one of his hands on her arm. he could feel her trembling and hear the sobs she was still covering with her sleeves.
jeongin sat beside her, his other hand moving the hand with which she covered her mouth. he held her hand tightly in her lap to prevent her from silencing herself again, allowing him to speak with her.
"what happened? why are you upset?" he asked.
"nightmare," rosey shrugged.
he got up off her bed and pulled her to her feet. she tried to fight back and stay in her bed, but she was only able to do so for a few seconds before jeongin whispered to her that he was only trying to help her.
jeongin urged her out of the room and led her to the kitchen. he asked her to sit, drawing out a chair at the table, and finally let go of her hand when he left her side. he went into the cabinets, took a glass, and filled it with water.
"here," he murmured, offering his girlfriend the drink.
he looked up at her face and then down at her trembling fingers wrapped around the glass. she gazed up at him with sorrowful eyes as she sipped the water.
rosey carefully placed the glass on the table, thanking him for his actions.
her partner stood in front of her as she stood up from her seat, her hand resting on the table's corner. she gave him a brief look before asking him a question.
"can you sleep with me?" she asked, leaning on the table and tilting her head.
"sure," he said, "at any time."
rosey was the first to enter the dark room as the two began to stroll back to their shared room. she sat on her bed's edge, waiting for jeongin to join her.
"what if this nightmare comes back again?"
jeongin stroked her hair, "just look at me, i'll be there."
