[Chapter 1] The Great Karma
An extreme climate shift that devastated the ecosystem on a global scale during the year 2030 followed by the inevitable global warming and manmade miscalculations, the earth became corrupted and grew vulnerable from the coming catastrophes. Nations divided, most if not all fell apart after years of territorial war in the wake of betrayal and power-hungry leaders.
Humanity was at the brink of extinction had it not been for the few individuals that persevered despite the harsh conditions who gave sacrifices for the greater good. Initially, the human population flourished after decades of globalization and conquest towards uninhabited islands and predicted a steady future for humanity for generations to come on the year 2025. But ultimately, greed, desire, and power all became the catalyst that caused the destruction on a global scale. The human population dropped to mere millions, the sea levels rose drastically, pollution filled the atmosphere that drove thousands of species extinct. The unending catastrophe that almost ended it all earned its name "The Great Karma". Humanity turned its back on evolution and focused on tearing down its people, as per their belief that overpopulation stagnates progression. But in the end, whether the side of good or bad, everyone paid the ultimate price.
During the year 2035 on the Crescente Peninsula, home of an industrial city famous for its artificial landscape, landmarks, and irresistible pastries. The continent spanned only 4,700 kilometers vertically, but man-made creations such as docks and artificial archipelagos expanded the official length towards the pacific ocean northward.
The Crescente island naturally formed around a deep freshwater coast that envelops the center, resulting in a crescent-like appearance hence the name of the peninsula where it was believed to have been formed after a colossal meteor shook the earth and struck the center of that island. Unlike the rest of the world, the civilization in Crescente grew stable for decades, with respectable communities and leaders that gave their contributions to society. Its first few residents were adaptive of the existing topography and shaped their belief around them, respecting nature to a greater extent while erecting their industrial machines.
The community built housing on high areas, farms near the coast, businesses in the central areas, underground terminals, and even monuments of well-respected figures of Crescente that serves as an icon and heavily supported the underground areas of the island to reinforce and act as a barrier in the event of a natural disaster.
Crescente became the perfect paradise for humans who wanted to live in peace under one condition. If a refugee were to migrate in Crescente, they must first oblige to the heavily-enforced laws with their life. It's a simple yet effective exchange. Basically, the law itself encouraged freedom in a way rewards the citizens as it establishes an act of unity towards each other. Through the years, humanity grew conscious of their own actions towards global warming and thus acted more considerably in their everyday lives. Of course, such as the way of Crescente; deal-breakers, or felons are to be deported without parole to their country of origin. Unless they were born in Crescente, then they must pay the ultimate price; Consecration.
[Chapter 2] Charles Sydney
Outside of Crescente, at the age of 11, Charles Sydney was evacuated from his hometown in Ramsgate, United Kingdom, to a fairly pleasant neighborhood in Amsterdam with his uncle after a devastating war between former countries broke out on a peaceful Saturday morning. Charles was once again evacuated away from Amsterdam this time, stowing with other refugees. Without guardians, little Charles anonymously strayed hundreds of miles away from his home along with other children to a different country where it was deemed safe.
