The Land of the Lost

The Broken Road

As I walk towards the river I see what appears to be an old road that is covered in sand and has cracks all over it, I look on the map and I can see it snake off towards a river,

 "it would probably be easier to walk on then the sand"

 I said to the desert around me, as soon as I stepped off the path I felt something change the world seemed to shift almost but then as quickly as it became it stoped and so did I.

 feeling a little dizzy I took a small sip out of my water skin and looked around quite a ways ahead of me I could just barely see what looked like a roof shimmering through the heat haze, I pick up my speed the thought of a covered roof almost seems to good to be true. 

  As I get closer the house comes more into view the building itself is completely in tact surprisingly and it has a door, I walk up to the front slowly just in case someone lives in this wasteland I lightly push on the door it swings open easily like the hinges are used often,

  "Tim is that you"

  a voice called from the other room, started I fall back tripping on a rock a man walks out he is big with a kinda care free look about him his hair is short brown and messy and his clothing is old and worn down

 "do you need help up" he says with a smile on his face and his hand out for me to grab   I reach out for his hand "

 I am Gorge he says as he pulls me up

 "I'm Jhon"

 I say as I dust myself off  

"would you like to come in says?"

 Gorge  I shake my head up and down

 "well follow me"

 he says turning around and heading back into the house 

"oh Jhon please take your shoes off at the door" I step inside and kick off my shoes putting them with the others piled up beside the door I walk into the room he went into and he is pulling some stuff out of a cubbies.

"So Jhon we don't have a lot of food but if you want some secret meat" Gorge says with a wink "secret meat?" I ask
"Trust me" he says "you don't want to know what it is"
"Oh I think I will pass" I say "do you have anything not so secret?"
"Yes" he says handing me some beetles in a glass jar "trust me there good"
I take the jar and pop it open I grab one and put the jar down "so do I just bite it" I ask
"Yes" he says "just pop it in and crunch down"
I throw it in my mouth and crunch down the shell of the beetle and the juices exploded into my mouth the flavour reminds me of the times I have split my lip I struggle to swallow it and almost choke on it.
Gorge laughs
I pull out my water skin and take a sip.
"There is a old well near by where you can refill that" says Gorge "but it tastes a bit like that beetle"
"Thanks for letting me know" I say with a smile
"It's my pleasure" he looks out the window "to many people become savages when they get out here if we stayed in the mind set of the people we used to be then we could turn this waist land into a sort of paradise...but that's not important it's getting late we don't have beds but you can sleep on the floor in the kitchen if you want?"
"Yea thanks that would be great"
"Ok and if anyone comes in just tell them you talked to me already there is a chance Tim night come back"
I nod my head
"I will make sure I remember"
He starts to walk up the stairs
"Ok good night" he says with a smile
I lay down on the floor I can hear him creaking around above me then it stops and I lay there looking at the roof and my eyes water I quickly role over and and close my eyes and fall asleep.
