'RING!!!RING!!!RING!!!'
I groan and roll over, trying to hit the snooze button on my alarm clock. I look at the clock and it reads, 4:28. I feel a nudge and look over my shoulder.
"Mmm, babe, get the door please?" He sassy in a just voice. I groan and sit up. I grab my bathrobe that Gene all but roped of my body last night, from the floor, and walked down the tiny hall and into the kitchen. I turn on the lights and walk to the door. I throw it open, and bob, one of Genes coworker/best friend is on the other side of the door. I rub my eyes, wrapping my robe tighter around me, and asked,
"B-Bob, w-what are you doing here? It's 4:20 in the morning. " I say out groggily. He does that fake chuckle thing when he tries and fails to lighten the mood. I give him 'The Look.' His face drops. He has a panicked look in his eye.
"G-Get, Gene. NOW!!!! " I flinch at his tone and run down the hall. Genes already up and putting a shirt on. He glances at me before throwing a small travel bag at me.
"Three outfits. One pair of shoes, nothing else. And put on some clothes."He says in a rushed tone. I quickly do as he says. Right as I sipped the bag, I heard a gunshot, and Bob bursts through the door.
"We gotta go, NOW!!!" He hauls ass back out the door, and Gene grabs my hand, pulling me along. We almost fly down the hall, and out onto the fire escape. Bob grabs the handrail and propels himself over the railing. I let out a scream and look over to the rail, except there's nobody laying on the ground. Gene taps me on the shoulder and points to the right. It's Bob and he waves to Gene. Gene turns to me and looks directly into my eyes.
"Okay, babe, do you trust me?' I just stare at him.
"Alaina!! This is serious! Do you trust me? with your life?" He ska. I nod.
"Yes. I trust you. I-I love you, why wouldn't I?" He smiles before pecking me on the slips.
"Good. ANd I love you too. More than anything. So I'm gonna need you to jump." I lol at him like he's crazy. The pleading look in his eyes makes me not want to yell at him.
"Please baby. You won't get hurt. I promise. " He pleads. I nod my head and take a deep breath. Then I jump. I don't feel pain, just two arms cradling me. I look up to see Bobs face. He caught me. Moments later, Gene lands on the ground next to us like he didn't just jump from the third-floor fire escape. Bob lets me down and Gene grabs my hand, wading us to the back alley. There's a car running and waiting for us. We hop in and I look into the driver's seat, to see Vinny, Bob's girlfriend.
"Floor it, Vin." I hear Bob say. She pushes her foot down on the accelerator and We speed off Vinny glances back at me, then at gene.
"I thought you were going to tell her?" He shakes his head no. I look at him.
"tell me what, Gene?" He doesn't answer. I ask him again. Still no answer. I get mad. I do the one thing that I know will get his attention. I go all dramatic. I start to cry fake tears and fake a few sniffles. His head instantly snaps in my direction. His eyes are full of concern and love. I internally smile.
"What's wrong Mio amore?" (My love)
Time to make this worth my while. I up the tear production.
"W-whats happening. W-where are we going? A—a-and.... what a-aren't y-you telling m-me?" I see Vinny smirk out of the corner of my eye. I did the same thing to her once when she wouldn't tell me about her first date with Bob. I turn my head and look Gene in the eyes. I can tell he's conflicted. He wants to tell me, I know he does, but for some reason, he 'can't'. I up the tear production even more and he gives in."Okay, okay. I'll tell you." I instantly stop crying and smile at him. Vin lets out a small chocked laugh and Gene looks at me with a deadpanned look.
"What?" I give him an innocent smile. "You told me you'd tell me, so, tell me. NOW!!" I shouted out. He flinched and Bob inhaled sharply. Vinny pushed down on the accelerator, and all of our backs got pressed into the seat. My head slammed onto the headrest and stars blurred my vision. After my vision cleared, I leaned forward, grabbed Vinns head, and slammed it into the seat.
"Ow!!! What the hell was that for!?" I glared at her and said,
"That's what happens when you slam your foot onto the gas pedal!" She gives me an apologetic look, and says,
"Sorry Ali." I smile at her.
