In the courtyard of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, three best friends sat together. Letting the sun fall upon their content smiles, which were put there by the newly given weekend. Hermione, a bushy-haired brilliant girl, sat against a tree, her lanky red-headed friend laid on his back next to their lightning scarred modestly famous friend, Harry Potter. Who laid on his side, his eyes closed and nose wrinkled up towards the sky.
"I couldn't have needed this weekend more" Harry announced "Snape was being-" Harry repeated a word he once heard Ron call Snape, and similar to when Ron said it; it caused Hermione to angrily yelp "Harry!" And smack his arm with her parchment
"Sorry Hermione" Harry quickly added, while Ron continued to giggle beside him.
"It's true though, the load of homework I had was enough for me to walk straight into the Whomping Willow" Ron sighed but followed it with a smile.
"I doubt that Ron" Hermione spoke, as she straightened her parchment and continued scribbling madly.
"What's that then?" Ron asked, poking Hermione's quill in which she pulled back with an angry jolt.
"It's the essay Professor Snape gave out, and he wants it done by the end of the break."
"And you're starting it on the first day? Are you mad?" Ron looked to Harry with an exasperated expression; Harry just chuckled in return.
"I'm not mad, Ron. I'm prepared. Maybe if you start yours too, you won't end up walking into the Whomping Willow" Hermione sharply added, turning her attention back to her essay.
"You would like that wouldn't you" Ron mumbled with a sneer, sitting up lazily and stretching out his arms and legs.
Harry ignored his friends teasing, the warmth of the suns raise kept him occupied. Harry let out a happy little sigh.
"Have you heard? Draco's staying for this break" Ron groaned, "whys the bloke decided to stay? He's got a mansion to go to?!"
Hermione and Ron began to discuss their mutual hatred for Draco while Harry's mind went somewhere else.
He remembered something from a week before the break...Harry made his way down the corridor, and it was becoming dangerously close to the curfew. But his steps faltered as he heard unidentifiable voices from a nearby classroom. Harry's cat-like curiosity and nosiness took over, he crept closer and placed an ear to the door. Feeling only slightly bad for eavesdropping, Harry had learned over the years to listen to whispers.
"Professor I must stay, I- I cannot go home."
Harry registered one of the voices as Draco Malfoy, which only piqued his interest.
"Malfoy, I'm sure your family wants you home. They have not seen you in quite a while" Dumbledore's clear voice followed, Harry pressed closer. "I am not welcome home Professor, not anymore" Draco's voice, even through the thick wooden door was drenched in sadness. Why wasn't Draco welcomed? From what Harry had learned he was treated like royalty by his parents, similar to Dudley.
"Are you sure my boy?" Dumbledores voice was soft and comforting. Harry heard footsteps down the hall. But the raven-haired boy couldn't walk away. He pressed closer to the door "Yes... I have to stay. My father, he does not want me home" Draco's voice cracked, Harry felt his heart drop. The footsteps drew nearer.
"Would you like to talk about why?"
Harry didn't hear Draco reply, assuming he either nodded or shook his head no. Then Draco continued "I told my father the truth, that I -"Harry's body jumped, a cold hand clasped his shoulder followed by a low, angry voice. "What are you doing out of bed, Potter?" Snape questioned, Harry knew full well Snape wouldn't care even if Harry did have a good reason for being there. Then Harry was suddenly being pulled down the hall; he stared back at the door wondering what he hadn't heard. What Draco had told his father.
